For those of you who were on the pill, how many months before trying for a bubba did you come off the pill?
Or those still on it, when do you plan to come off?
I ask because we are a few months off being ready to fall pregnant. I know it probably won’t happen straight away anyway, especially having been on the pill for about 6/7 years, but due to my work situation we need to wait a little bit longer just I’m case it DOES happen right away.

I’d go off as soon as you’re comfortable going off and use a different method until you’re ready to TTC. I went off in April of 2013 and went back to regular pretty quickly, but many people don’t.

Hi I’d been on the pill since I was 15 due to terrible pains and 7 day heavy flo, I’d come off it a couple of times over the years to see if there was any change but always went back on. Came off to TTC in August 2012 and on,y the last 4 months have been back to almost normal in terms of cycle length as I have had 49, 78, 12, 22 day cycles during this time. Just about back to 31 now. So it can take a while to get the pill out of your system, then again I’ve heard of people falling pregnant without even making it a full month off! Age depends, I’m 37 now and weight and physical health I’d see a GP if youre serious just to have a check up. I’ve been diagnosed as PCOS twice, once at 18 then they rechecked at 21 and said no! Then we went to fertility specialist in 2013 and they said yes I am PCOS but they’ve retired and current doctor thinks no!! So I’m trying to keep weight down and taking metaformin to regulate sugar absorbsion and on third cycle of clomid following a HSG, they think we were pregnant a few cycles ago judging on an internal ultra sound but I AF shortly after. Fingers crossed for 2015 baby

I was on the pill for about ten years and went off it about five months before TTC. I was very lucky and my cycles regulated within a month or so. I wish I had started charting/temping right away so that I got used to it and understood it for when TTC.

mazzoffee: I’m in a similar situation, we are going to TTC next August/Sept but I am def do not want to be pregnant before then. I think the plan rigth now is to come off in June, but Im tempted to come off earlier just in case it takes a while to regulate ( realllyyy wanted to become pregnant in Nov/Dec, like I can actually control that tho lol :-P)

Like others said, I’d just get off early and use other forms of contraceptive. Condoms may not be as fun but neither is an early delivery if that’s not what you’re planning for!

mazzoffee: I came off it 10/11 months before we began TTC. My cycles came back straight away as normal. a couple of cycles in between were a bit nuts though! We just usedr condoms until we started TTC. Onto our 3rd cycle ttc now. No luck yet

I was on the NuvaRing (hormonal, like the pill, but in a ring that’s inserted in the vagina) for over a decade. I talked with my doctor and he didn’t think there was any need to go off birth control months before we were TTC. In fact, he said, that many women are most fertile right after coming off birth control. So I continued with my birth control right up until we decided to start TTC. We’re on our third cycle TTC and we aren’t pregnant yet, but my cycles regulated immediately after coming off the birth control. First cycle was 27 days, second cycle was 29 days. Some women have wonky cycles after coming off birth control, so there are some people that would benefit from coming off birth control prior to getting ready to TTC. However, some women just have wonky cycles, period, so it doesn’t matter when they come off birth control, their cycles will always be wonky.

Yes it can happen right away. I was on BCP 16 years and didn’t think it would happen right away, and it did. So if you want to come off it earlier but not get pregnant…use another form of protection!

Not to scare you, but from 20-23 I was on the depo shot every 3 months, then from 24-26 I was on the pill. Then I met Mr right at 26 and he told me to just stop taking that pill. Now we were kind of careful, using the pull out method from the time I was 26-33 and no accidents. Either he knows his junk really really well 😉 or I thought we are not fertile. At 33.5 yrs old we kind of started trying here and there but by the time I turned 34 we tried all the time. So basically 7 cycles and we are finally pregnant. Thank goodness I was getting a bit worried. I was always told to be SO careful, well at least the timing is right.

My doctor wanted me to be off the pill at least one full cycle before TTC. I stopped taking in in September, and we got pregnant in November!
We weren’t very good about using other forms of protection in the meantime because we don’t really like them. So we were only really careful for the couple of days that we needed to be while we were still waiting to TTC. And the first time we had good timing, it happened!

mazzoffee: I just started my last round of BCP. I have 4 more packs left, so as of May we will be using alternative methods, then TTC in the fall.

mazzoffee: We got pregnant 30 days after I stopped taking the pill. We weren’t trying to prevent, we were just not super-trying. I was actually happy that we didn’t have to wait for a few months because it means I’m not pregnant during the summer!

I went off the end of July after being on bcp 8 straight years. I had 2 31 day cycles (I thought…great! Things went right back to normal!) Then my next period didn’t come and I had to go to my obgyn for tons of blood tests and an ultrasound…everything came back normal so she gave me provera which induced my next period. Now I’m on CD 23 with no sign of ovulation so who knows what’s going on. My period was regular before going on the pill. I recommend going off bcp asap so if you get unlucky like me you have time to get things sorted out!

I came off th pill two months ago and my first cycle was 34 days which is pretty normal. Everyone is different. You could come off now and just be extra careful?
