I’m not at where I want to be either, but we’re taking them about a year before the wedding date. I would just remember to check with your photographer at how long the photos will take to process, because that was the deciding factor in our decision.

Even though you may not be at the weight you want to be, just remember to have confidence – its not how you look but how you feel. And I’m sure you’ll look great!

We’re doing ours in October or November. I’m also stalling mine. :p The wedding is in June, so that’s 7-8 months ahead.

Best time: enough before the wedding that you can use the pictures for whatever you want them for (STDs, guestbook, whatever)! It’s also helpful to do them when you’re likely to get clear weather, because outdoor shots tend to have better lighting. We’re doing ours in late fall for our March wedding, for the same reason. 😉 I’m not trying to lose weight right now (I’ll be lucky if I can maintain it until March, though!) but Fiance has INSISTED that we not do this until he’s dropped a few more pounds! He’s so vain! 😉

We did ours pretty early, but we have a long engagement. We took them in the fall and used one to make a Christmas card – which led to my mom and aunts wanting copies to frame so they turned into christmas presents last year.

We’re getting married next October, and just had them done last week.

There’s no hard and fast rule about when they need to be done – it’s really what you want them for.  We want them for our Save the Dates, which need to go out by the end of the year, and we wanted to take them on the beach, so we had to, you know, be on vacation and stuff, which happens during the summer.

We’re both overweight, and both currently unhappy with our weight (I mean, we both know we’re going to be fat for pretty much ever… but we’re each a little fatter than we’d like).  On that note, I LOVED my engagement photos (that I’ve seen so far), and had to just suck it up and not get overly critical because my upper arm looks a little large or I don’t like how my chin looks – because we both look happy and smiley and in love and it’s kind of awesome.

So if you want to wait a while – go for it – but if you can have the confidence to be yourself – you can proabably have them done now.

Get them done with enough time for you to have the option to use them for any projects wedding related or to have them at the wedding itself. Ask your photographer how long it will take to get them back and process everything.

I also want to lose weight before we do ours. We are planning to do them in April when my FH and I go back to Ohio (we live in London). Our wedding is in August — we’re doing ours fairly close to the wedding, but thats just how it worked logistically

I wasn’t totally pleased with my weight when we took engagement pictures.  But I knew I wanted summery shots, so we did them last September, almost 11 months before our wedding.

I wanted our engagement pictures to be done by our wedding photographer, but since we had a destination wedding, it was hard getting together.  My fiance wasn’t with me when I originally went out there a year before the wedding.  We went back together in February, but she was on her honeymoon.  So we ended up having our pictures taken a couple days before the wedding.  No, we werent’ able to use them for Save the Dates or the guestbook or anything, but we had a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera right before the wedding and we’re going to use them for about a million other things.

@MissOmally – so pretty!  I love the vibe and lighting – gorgeous!

We got engaged October 23, 2008.  We took engagement pictures in early November because our families are in another state and planned an engagement party for us over the Thanksgiving holiday and I wanted to have pictures for that.

I enjoyed having the pictures, but in hindsight I wish I had waited a bit longer and planned more.  We actually didn’t use them for STD or guestbook.  They were really just used at the e-party and we’ll have a couple sitting around at the wedding too.

We did ours about a year before the wedding ( way far out,  but we put them in saves the dates ) .
