Today I’m e-mailing my four bridesmaids their 20 dress choices (some with up to three color choices – different shades of purple). They’re going to be ordering online, since they’re all in different states and no one has the same store near them. I want to give them enough time to budget, order, return (if, God forbid, needed), and get any alternations.
I don’t want them to order as soon as they get the e-mail, because while I want them to be in all different dresses and color shades, if they all happen to fall in love with the same dress, then I have no problem with them being all matching. Or, if say three out of the four choose the same color shade, then I’ll just have them be all in the same shade.
So, I was thinking of giving them until the end of June to decide on the dress and color they want, all while keeping me and the other ladies updated with their choices.
But, what deadline should I give them to order by? Our wedding is March 9, 2013, but I want to allow for problems, alterations, etc.
What date deadline did you give your BMs to buy their dresses?

All mine are out of state too! but i went back in feburary and we ordered them and tired them on. they said it would take a month to two months but they came in a few weeks later. i would deff put a order by date to make sure no problems arise. 2-3 months seems reasonable or whenever they can afford it if its before then 🙂

my bridesmaids bought their dresses by late February, although apparently that was on the really late side because my SIL said that the consultant shat a brick when she told the consultant that the wedding was in May >_<

The wedding is August 25th, and the BM’s didn’t order their dresses until maybe,… the first week or so in May? Two of them are TTC, one of them is losing weight, one of them was defending her master’s thesis, and my sister is about to graduate high school, so everyone’s lives were kind of up in the air and really hectic. As long as they show up clean, half sober, and wearing the dresses they picked (I chose the color, they picked the style) then I’ll be a happy bride 🙂

I agree with PP on an order by date. Make sure you remind them of the date too. I reminded my girls a few times and they all waited until the last minute. Now two girls won’t have their dresses until about 10 days before the wedding. My Maid/Matron of Honor hasn’t even ordered her dress yet so I’m not sure what’s going to happen there…
Since you have so many different options I think it’s great that you are starting to have the girls look now. As far as the order by date… Well I guess you’d have to look at the different places you would be ordering from and see how long dresses take to come in. The place We got ours from takes about 8 weeks for dresses to arrive. I wanted the girls to have their dresses ordered about 3 months prior to have time for alterations. I would say the end of December might be a good time to have them ordered by.

Thanks, everyone! I’ve decided to have them choose by June 30th and order by November 1st. That way, they’ll actually be ordered by December. Yup, I’ve got some of those ladies in the bunch.
