When did your groom (and his groomsmen) start looking for their wedding day attire? I know the bride is supposed to find her dress quite early, as it takes months for it to come in, but what about the guys? Should they start looking and order their suits early too?

My husband owns his own tux–he actually has two! Some of our groomsmen had their own tuxes and wore them. Others got theirs from Men’s Wearhouse. I believe you only needed the order 6 weeks in advance. We went with MW as we could return the tuxes later than we could with other local vendors. And there are locations nationwide and most of our guys without tuxes were from out of town. The only problem we had was that they forgot to give the guys studs and one of the groomsmen had to go back and get them for the wedding party. My friend’s jacket was a little short, but otherwise they looked great. If you are having your wedding in DC, I can recommend some places my husband almost went with but didn’t due to us moving the next day and flying out for our honeymoon!

We’re planning on shopping in January for our May wedding. That’s probably earlier than necessary since you normally buy off the rack, and alterations (like hemming) are pretty simple and take a short amount of time (a couple of weeks).

I like to do things early and my hubby knows that so he went early to look. They bought instead of rented, so they could have waited a litlte longer, but that would have driven me mad.

He bought a tux from Saks about three months before our wedding, it was plenty of time for alterations and such.
