We received a present in the mail today from FI’s aunt who said it’s for the shower. My shower is in a week and a half (April 27)- do I wait until after the shower to send it or should I send it right away? We did call and verbally thank her so she will know it got here safely.
I guess for future reference- do I mail thank you cards for wedding gifts as we get them or after the wedding?

I say for the shower if she’s not coming, send it now, if she IS attending, wait until after so you can thank her for coming. For the wedding, there are multiple opinions on this. Some are as soon as you receive it, some are within 6 months to a year, etc… We waited until after the wedding because I wanted to send a photo, so there were some gifts we had up to 2-3 months ahead of time without sending a formal Thank You, just a heads up that it was received. As far as I know there were no complaints fro mthe early birds that they didn’t receive a Thank You in time. Verbal thank you’s are good to tide them over.
Hmm.. tide or tie… that’s one for the badly worded phrases thread!?

@MsJ2theZ: Thanks! She is attending, but since we live in a different state from the shower so I’ll wait to send them after the shower! Same for the wedding- I was hoping to send a picture so I guess that makes sense. Thanks again!

If she is attending, I would’ve brought the gift to the shower to open it there in front of her. So I voted to send the thank you after the shower.
I’m guessing you already opened the gift, so I guess go ahead and send a thank you card now.

I’d send a thank you card now.
Gifts that you get before the wedding; send out a thank you card as you get them
