8-10 months before the wedding is a good amount of time.  So perhaps start looking around August.

Also, it might take you time to find one.  It took me months and almost 100 dresses later. Wink

i think you should start now! but dont buy till you are absolutely sure… my first dress i thought i loved… i didnt purchase, but took pictures of me in it..went home and slept on it.. continued to look at the pictures and realized that i didnt love it like i thought i did (i think it was just the excitement that made me THINK i wanted that dress) im getting married in September of this year, i started looking in October of last year (a month after i got engaged) and continued looking since i didnt love the 1st one anymore… fell in love with another dress in december, but waited till february to put a deposit to purchase to make sure i still LOVED the dress… and today, i am still in love ๐Ÿ˜€ so give yourself that time so you dont have any dress regrets ๐Ÿ™‚

As of now, I would start by creating a vision board and get familiar with types and styles so you can tell a consultant your vision when shopping for a dress.  It takes up to 3 months to get shipment for a wedding dress unless you’re lucky and buy it off rack like at David’s Bridal or something.  Sept-Oct you should start and no later than Nov-Dec commit to the dress of your dreams.  Give time for alterations..(1 month) depending on how much needs to be done.  Good luck and don’t settle for less!

I would start looking now.  You need to allow time to make appointments and go dress shopping.  Dress on average takes about 5 months to come in depending on designer and you need to allow a month or two for alterations.  Your wedding is a month before mine.  I was engaged end of Oct 2011 and started dress shopping the following month.  After trying on tons of dresses at the 5th bridal boutique I finally found *the dress* and bought it beginning of January 2012.  My dress is taking 8 months, expected to arrive mid-august. People say I ordered my dress too early but I knew it was the one so I feel pretty confident with my decision. When you go dress shopping keep an open mind and try on as much as possible.  Dresses you may think are not your style may look amazing on.  Good luck!
