Same here!  I remember my contact saying that we could do everything at about 2 months out and it freaked me out to have no contact for so long!  I actually emailed him yesterday because I heard that they are doing renovations and also I want to come by and see another wedding in the space.  We got right back to me and we are going to go by at the end of the month to check things out.  But I still don’t think we’ll really be working on any of the details for awhile.  Kinda scary!

I would contact them now and see what they say.  I was in the same position so I called and it ended up being that I needed to start 5 months out (which is where I am now).  We have a menu selection meeting tomorrow, we’re doing the cake and linens in Feb.  So you probably have a little bit of time left.

i would call them and ask when you should be doing that stuff. it’s different for different venues. we’re having our wedding at a tiny little (11 rooms) hotel and our wedding is in 1 1/2 months, we haven’t even had our tasting yet or picked out food yet! they’re so busy and so small staffed that they just don’t have time for events that far in advance, but i’ve heard such great things about them that i try not to let myself stress too much.

According to our contract, everything will be needed to be finalized one month before the date.  We already did the linen, tastings, etc. so there is not much else to do until there is stuff to do. I think it’s up to you. If you have done the above, then you might want to contact them to get that squared away.  Or, if you have specific questions or need info from them to help you with planning, you can contact them, too.  I haven’t talked to my venue since last July and I haven’t even found the need to contact them, yet, for my wedding in less than 5months away.

There’s no reason you can’t start now!

I would write down a list of questions you would like answered now (general ones like, “what color linens can we have?”), and get those things finalized.

I would wait until you’re about 3-4 months out to start hammering out the nitty-gritty details. In my experience, I was finding that our vendors didn’t want to finalize anything with us until around that time frame, sometimes not even until two months out.

But getting all the general stuff done now, like what you plan to set-up (candy buffet, etc.) would definitely be okay.
