If you have a block of rooms with a particular hotel, see if the concierge/front desk will arrange to place the bags in each room before your guests check in. They will know everyone who is booked under your party name and when they are all coming in.

And an Out of Town bag is still nice for those who are travelling, the favors don’t exactly replace them. But to be honest, I have never gotten one to any out of town weddings I have attended, so it’s by no means necessary.

@baliahi1029: ditto. we double-checked our list of guests with the hotels’ list of who had made reservations in our hotel block, and then the concierge dealt with getting the bags to the guests

Our hotel either wanted to charge us $2.50 per bag to deliver them to the rooms, or to keep them behind the counter and give one to each guest when they checked in for free.  We went with the latter and it worked out fine.

@Ginger123:  I used to work at a hotel and this was our policy as well.  It works totally fine to just have them keep them behind the front desk and pass them out as people check in!  Honestly, if you have them in the rooms, it can be hard if people switch room types or anything when they get there because then their room will get moved, but the bag doesn’t always make it.

We just left them at the front desk and when people checked in, the hotel staff gave them a bag.  We had guests arriving anywhere from Wednesday onwards (our wedding was on a Saturday) so the staff just asked people if they were here for the Ree723 wedding.  We also had a surplus of bags so if some were passed out to people who weren’t there for the wedding, it wasn’t a big deal.

We also did favours but I think the Out of Town bags are a completely different thing.  When people have travelled long distances, I think it’s nice to have some snacks and drinks available for them, not to mention information on the town they’re staying in so they know where to go for food and entertainment.
