Register so that you are pretty much done by the time that invitations go out for your first wedding-gift-related event, like a shower. don’t register too early, cuz you will be surprised how many items get discontinued!

I started my registry this past April or May (maybe the beginning of May but I can’t remember exactly) – our wedding is in August 2012. I just did it because I was bored and its fun to register. I’m glad I did it early because a bunch of people have purchased engagement gifts for us from the registry (even though we’ve been engaged for a year). We did a lot of our registering online. We went to look at our fine china, casual china, and stemwear in person before registering for it (you really have to hold that in your hands and see it in person to make sure you love it). And then we added a bunch of stuff that we liked in the store while we were there (its fun to use those scanner guns lol). Most people won’t know about our registry until they receive the STD’s which will list our wedding website on it (which of course have our registries listed). Anyways, have fun with it!!

@red_rose: had to comment, its so strange. We live in Ann Arbor and also may be moving to Cleveland (but not for another 1 3/4 year). LOL. small world!

Re: the registering too early, I usually get an email from Bloomingdales or Macy’s if an item has been/will be discontinued. But I’m going to wait until its closer to replace any of the items in case the one I want comes back.

Our wedding is in May and our wedding planner recommended late January at the earliest. The trouble between now and next year is that a lot of items that are put out are considered “holiday” items or packaging and won’t be available readily when guests actually go out to make the purchases.

Just a thought.

I would suggest you to do your wedding registry around 3 months before your wedding…….otherwise you have to check time to time for out of stock items……..some items can go out of stock….so its better to add items 3 months before so that you know what to add at that time…..
