I know how you feel! Our place seems to get dirty/dusty sooo fast and I just can’t keep up with it and it drives me nuts. And when I DO have free time, that’s the last thing I ever feel like doing… I hate cleaning, a lot.

Not sure if this is an option for you, but recently we bit the bullet and decided to get a cleaning lady. She only comes whenever we want her to, so as little or often as we’d like. The price is pretty reasonable and we don’t do it too much… only when our place gets to a really bad point and needs it. I figure, it’s so easy to just waste 50 bucks on something stupid or useless… why not spend it on something that makes your life SO much better and easier and gives you a lot of satisfaction? It really does feel so good to come home to a spotless house that is WAY cleaner than I could ever get it myself! Something to think about…

We both work full time, cook every night, exercise 3 day on 1 day off and have a dog.

I think the biggest thing for us is that my husband has half days on Wednesdays and he does a quick mid week cleaning then.

Every Saturday morning when he’s at work I clean the house, paying attention mainly to vacuuming, cleaning the kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and cleaning the floors.

Throughout the week we also pick up around the house after dinner usually every other night.

Usually once a month or so we pick a room and tackle it together from top to bottom. Like literally everything comes off all surfaces, gets wiped down, cleaned & sanitized. Furniture gets pulled out and dust behind corners and vacuum under furniture etc. We usually do this on a weeknight or on a weekend day.

I try to do a little every day so things dont pile up. If things have piled up I will take all day on a Saturday or all day on a Sunday (like maybe 2-3 hours total) and get as much done without burning out. Oh I also drink red bull.

I totally know what you mean!  I try to clean our bathroom every 2 weeks and I think we went like 5 with no cleaning…way too long for me.  I finally just got fed up and got up early to scrub the heck out of it. I can’t wait until the wedding is over, I’m totally cleaning the house and organizing all the papers.  THE PAPERS HAVE TAKEN OVER!!!  Mail, taxes, coupons…it’s everywhere!  We are not going on a honeymoon (no funds), but I’m taking the week off after the wedding, and I will be cleaning!  Everyone thinks I’m nuts, but it’s going to feel soooo good to have a clean place.

I do the same thing as you – work, gym, sleep.  We have NO time on the weekdays to do anything.  If it weren’t for wedding stuff, we’d be ok, because at least we have weekends, but we’ve had crap to do every weekend and the wedding is 2 hours away so when we have to do stuff over the weekend, it’s an ordeal.

I try to do small things – like, ok, I’ll go through this pile of papers today.  I mostly just get 4 things done: Laundry, Kitchen (cook and clean), cat littler, and bathroom.  Everything else gets straightened up slowly throughout the week.  After the wedding, I will have more time.

We keep our house picked up on a daily basis (dishes get done every day, laundry sometimes happens throughout the week, we make an effort to put things where they belong) so that our house never really gets that MESSY. But as for the cleaning, it all happens on the weekends. We plan a time either saturday or sunday morning and do it very first thing when we wake up. It usually takes between 1-2 hours with both of us working to clean the house top to bottom, and it always feels so good when its done!

We had the same problem and recently made the decision to hire a cleaning service.  They come every other week (today actually 🙂 to clean the house.  It’s not cheap, but after looking at all our options, we feel this “buys” us time to do other things.

we have this same problem and the worst part is that Fiance absolutely does not care if the house is a mess so it’s really hard to get him to help.

Usually I just pound a 5 hour energy and go crazy on the mess. Lather, rinse, repeat. Not the best system ever, but for now, it’s our only option.

The ultimate plan is to hire a cleaning lady. My parents have one that comes in every two weeks and does the major cleaning like vacuuming, bathrooms, etc. My mom says she is more than happy to write that check every month because it saves her sanity!

Yup, we also do it on the weekends. We usually do it early in the morning just to get it done and over with. I try to keep up with laundry during the week but even that is difficult after I get home from work, gym, etc.

There was actually a Groupon yesterday for cleaning services. I glanced at it quickly so Im not sure if it was a local or national one, but maybe watch out for those? You can try it out and see how you like it.

I lowered my standards. Honestly! I just couldn’t keep up with deep cleaning a 4 bedroom 2 1/2 bathroom house every week. I can’t even keep up with doing it every two weeks. So, alas, I have lowered my standards. If I can get a really good deep clean once a month, I’m happy.

That’s not to say that I don’t still run the vacuum every Saturday, or at night when I get the chance, but my bathrooms just can’t get cleaned that often. I don’t have the time. And when we do have the time, Darling Husband and I tackle it together so that we have more time for us.
