The sole trip I took internationally was 14 years ago and was a direct flight, so does anyone know when you would go through customs on your way home. We’re going to Cacun in Nov. and would be changing flights in Miami most likely. Would we need to go through customs there or when we got to our final destination.
I want to make sure that we have enough time to do so either way. Thanks!

You’ll go through customs in Miami.
We went through customs in Miami returning from our DW/honeymoon and it took about an hour.

I always go through customs at the first city you land in in the country: IE if I fly from home town to Toronto to International town then on the return flight, I could go through customs in TO when I land back in Canada.

In Miami. Because your flight from Miami to home is a local flight, there will be no customs check on that flight since no borders are crossed.

You will go through customs in Miami. Any luggage you check you will have to pick up, take through customs and then re-check on your connecting flight.
Leave plenty of time for the connection, especially if you are checking bags.
