I just got engaged (yay!), and I’m a bit terrifed of ruining/scratching/losing my ring. I live in a beautiful, very hot area & therefore spend almost every single day of the summer swimming in lakes. I’ve heard some people don’t wear their ring in lakes…but I also work in the healthcare field, so if I dont wear it swimming AND I don’t wear it at work…I’ll never wear it.
What are your opinions? I really don’t want to have to worry about taking it off and storing it somewhere safe everyday when I’m out on the lake.

is it ensured ? If it is then go wild lol..if it isn’t then I would avoid swimming with my ring.

Nothing can happen as long as it is tight enough not to slip off! I swim in the sea with my rings no problem!

Take a bath, while in the bath do swim motions with your arms and hands under the water. It should feel secure in water. If it doesn’t then do not wear it in the lake

If your ring is insured and fits well, go for it! Just keep in mind that your finger may shrink a lot in cold water. The first summer I had my ring I wore a cheap CZ band on top of my ering when I went swimming, for added security.

I wouldn’t, but that’s just because I’ve heard horror stories about losing rings in the water. I understand the not being able to wear it, but you honestly don’t go anywhere other than work and the lake?
Or what about getting a “cheap” fake ring to wear to the lake? That way you have a ring to wear, but if you lose it, it’s not the real ring you’ve lost?

1) buy insurance for that baby. 2) make sure it’s well-fitted, and you have no risk of it falling off when your fingers are at their smallest (fingers shrink and swell – mine as much as 1.5 sizes :O you want to size your ring so it’s the loosest it can be while your finger is at its smallest without
risk of falling off – even in water). 3) don’t bang your hand on any rocks. 4) go swimming!

If your rings are fitted correctly it shouldnt be an issue if you are just swimming. Anything else I would take my ring off. My uncle lost his while wind surfing.

This is my first summer since getting engaged and so far have remembered not to take it camping, and not to get in the pool with it. I definitely won’t wear it in the lake. If you lose it there’s literally no getting it back. I put a ring box in my purse so I can have a safe place to take it off before I get in the water.

There is no way I’d wear it swimming. First, pool water can damage your setting, and lake water is just icky. Plus, if you did lose it, there is like, 0% chance you’ll find it in a lake. I’d rather be safe than sorry. You can still wear it before/after, while you go out to eat, etc.

thanks for all the advice!
i’m going to get it insured and then live my life, with my ring! 🙂

When I was just about 8 years old my sweet mom’s diamond ring fell off her finger from being cold and fell to the bottom of the lake. She never got over it and never replaced it until about 40 years later. I wouldn’t do it. I still feel sad about it

Do NOT wear your ring in a lake. It will slip off and you will NEVER find it or see it ever again. You’ll come back here and create a post that says something like “Lost my ring in the lake :(” lol
