I have had my engagement ring for a year and TWICE I have had to take it in because my round center stone is spinning in the setting.
My ring is palladium, which is supposedly stronger than gold. I realize that if you bump your prongs or they get caught on something they can shift. I’m a nurse, so I’m constantly gloving and ungloving or in and out of filing cabinets. I’ve been wearing my ring to bed, in the shower, while cleaning . . . etc, etc. I figure the ring is safer on my finger than on the bathroom counter, kitchen counter, dresser, what have you.
I recently bought a wedding set on ebay that is sterling silver, CZ. (It’s obnoxious size, hee hee). But I’m seriously contemplating putting my real engagement ring in the jewelry box and only wearing it on weekends or for special occasions and wearing the $30 cheapie for day to day stuff.
Have any of you had problems with your stones coming loose or having your gold fade, etc? What do you take your ring off to do? Or do you never take it off?
– Scared bee with too many loose stones and not wanting anything to happen to my little beauty!

I take my rings off as soon as I walk into my house. It is more for comfort reasons than anything though. I have a routine: shoes off, pants off, bra off, rings off, sweats on.

I take all my rings off the second I walk in the door and put them on when I leave. They are always stored in their original boxes. I don’t think fine jewelry is meant to be worn 24/7
I also have some really fun Berricle rings and I treat them with the same care. Hey, I want my $40.00 worth:)

I take off my rings at work. I work as a baker and whenever I leave them on they get covered in sticky stuff, dough stuck under the stones-it’s not pretty. I keep them in a little pocket in my purse while I’m at work and I always put them back on when I leave. Other than that I always wear them, I haven’t had much of a problem with stones coming loose but I have scratched it up (it’s white gold). I don’t think there’s anything wrong with wearing a cheap ring to work.

I take mine off to shower, when i go to bed, to wash up, to bathe the pets, and to garden.
but i work an office job, i think if i was working a rougher job i would only wear it on days off

I usually take my ring off when I get into my pj’s. or if ill be doing dishes ill take it off and leave it off at night. I will not sleep, shower or wash dishes with my ring on. I’m so paranoid about a diamond popping out!

I take mine off to shower and sleep. On weeknights Ill come home from work and off they come till I get up in the morning. Weekends I tend to wear them more of the time.

@RahlyRah: I do this as well, but contacts come out somewhere between rings and sweats.
Honestly at first I thought I had to wear the ring at all times, I was so relieved when I realized from friends that they take off their rings once they get home.

The only time I take my rgangs off are when I bathe, do the dishes or get my hands really dirty. I’ve had them five years, and the first head on my ring came loose and the tone came our, after they switched out the head for a sturdier one, there’s been no problem.

I take my rings off as soon as I get home. I hardly wear my engagement ring when I’m home but I wear my plain platinum wedding band at home sometimes.

So glad to hear people take them off. I guess I was always under the impression people wore their rings 24/7. The respiratory therapist I work with NEVER takes hers off (she has a 1/3ct marquise). When I first realized my stone was loose, she double checked her ring and an ENTIRE PRONG was missing. She has worn hers nonstop for 15 years, horseback riding and all. FI and I worked hard TOGETHER to get me my ring (it’s a 1/2ct round in a floral carve setting) and I don’t want anything to happen to it even with the insurance on it. I just feel so naked without a ring on 24/7 now.
We get a lot of dirty old men in healthcare, and some of them make really rude comments about your ring/lack of ring. I’d rather have something on my finger at work, but I’m afraid wearing mine there is doing it more harm than good. 🙂

I haven’t had any issues with stones falling out or lose prongs yet (ring is 8 months old). I take it off to sleep and in the shower and to clean or doing anything “out of the ordinary” I wear it out all the time, and if i’m just sitting around the house. I also wear it to work but I work in an office so nothing really bumps it or gets it dirty.
I just noticed someone purchased my crystal ring holder off my registry, so now I’m super excited to be able to have a fun place to store it. Right now, I just sit it in the box on my nightstand.

I never take my rings off. I used to take my engagement ring off when I made burgers because I was afraid that the raw meat squishing between my fingers would get under the stones. But it never did and now I wear them all the time. But we did leave them at home for the honeymoon. However, I don’t think my e-ring fits into my winter gloves, so that may become an issue because they are really good gloves.

As soon as I get home, I take it off. It’s just easier that way for me. I don’t have to worry about leaving it somewhere in the house.

I wear it 24/7 except when I shower (because it is a little large, I am afraid it will slip off). I havent had any issues with it, and definitely feel naked without it.
