I don’t have too many people that I talk to whom are engaged or married. My mother didn’t even wear her wedding rings at all the last several years of their marriage… I am soon-to-be engaged, and I keep getting more and more curious about when I should take off my ring. In the shower? In the restroom? Going to bed? Making meals/prepping food? Working (with gloves on)? Ever at all?
What’s your experience with this?

I take mine off if I am cooking a messy meal, washing dishes, shower/bath, and sleeping….. My mother on the other hand only wears her ring when she is out in public.

You’ll probably just do what feels comfortable when you get them, but I don’t sleep with it on and I take it off to do messy work like yard stuff. Oh, and I don’t shower with it on.

I was just thinking about this the other day. I am not a ring person but I want to wear it as much as possible but with my job I don’t know when thats going to happen. I can’t wear it to work it will get wrecked and I cant sleep with it on ( my hands swell too bad) so basically I get to wear it 6pm to 10 pm lol.

damarajade: I have a ring holder in the kitchen to take it off when i cook. I also have the original ring box on my night stand to take it off before i take a shower. my hands swell and shrink so sometimes it will slip off with shower gel or shampoo.

I don’t sleep or shower with my rings on. I also take them off when I’m doing something that could damage them (serious housecleaning or yardwork) or when they might be uncomfortable for me (for example, my hands sometimes swell when I exercise).
You’ll figure out what your own preferences are, and that’s fine! I just made sure that I have a few dedicated spots for where I put my rings when I’m not wearing them — I have a ring holder in my bedroom, a ring dish in the kitchen, and a ring holder at work. So then I always know where they are!

My ring has a zillion teeny crevices (very fine detail) so I take mine off if I’m going to put on lotion, deal with messy meals (meatloaf/meatballs/raw chicken).
I sleep with mine and haven’t had any issues.
Sometimes I take it off when exercising, sometimes I don’t. (if it’s loose and spinning, or too tight, I take it off because it hurts).
I have a little ring casket on my nightstand, and a ring holder in the windowsill above the sink in the kitchen. Just don’t set them down whereever.

I HATE taking off my rings. I usually only take them off to cook/bake messy foods, use cleaners, or apply lotion, then they are right back on.
I’m also quite swollen due to pregnancy, so I haven’t been able to wear them for 2 months now. It’s KILLING me (not to mention the awesome looks I get when people notice I am preggers and have no rings on my fingers).
You’ll figure out what you’re comfy with, and what your rings can withstand. I purposely chose a ring that was practical and not afraid to be knocked around for the reasons stated above.

I take mine off to wash my hair, or put product in my hair. looking something that involves my hands and of course to clean it
My ring has micro pave down the sides, and lots of tiny fine details
I have waist length thick curly hair and i had found that my ring was often gunked up by filmy hair product and needed frequent cleaning, plus it got snagged on my hair often
Other than that… it’s always on my finger

Oh, wonderful! I started wearing a RHR last week, and I find myself taking it off at night, when I’m cleaning, washing my hands, etc. I also work in a lab quite a bit, so I’m thinking I’ll have to start taking them off at work. I like the idea of having dishes to put them in! I’ll have to find some super cute dishes for all the places I forsee taking them off 😉

I take mine off for bed, when I put on lotion and if I’m baking bread or something that requires getting my hands messy.

You’ll get your own ring habits over time. For me I feel strange without my ring. I only take it off at home for showering, washing dishes or handling something messy. I sleep with it and all. I love the idea that I can wear my ring and later my wedding band for everything.

Whenever I get home from work, I take mine off immediately. I’m still newly engaged (4months) so I’m totally still in the phase of paranoia that something will happen to it. My biggest fear is that it’s going to go down the drain in the kitchen or bathroom.

I hate not having it on. I always feel like I’ve lost it if I notice its not on. I wear all the time including sleeping. The only time I take it off is to shower and workout. Oh and when I decide to drink a little too much at the lake and jump off the dock at 3 am…. cold water, shrinking fingers and booze don’t mix well. Use your best judgement and do what ia comfortable to you. Remember that you can always get your ring cleaned but you’re hooped if it gets lost because u took it off.
