I voted for “within the next year.” This is a hopeful note since my SO has not set an actual timeline. I know he had some personal goals that he wanted to accomplish within the last few years, and I think he’s getting to a more stable place to take the next step! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for something by the end of 2012 (even though that seems forever away sometimes! :))

@spaneshal:  That’s how I feel…  Christmas, then New Years, then our Anniversary in Jan, then trip to Hawaii, then Valentine’s Day, then my Birthday in Feb…  It’s like he has so many great opportunities coming up!  Too bad he would be seriously annoyed if I took things into my own hands!

I voted 6 months because of all the stuff happening in the next 6 months, but honestly, no idea.  I know it likely won’t be a holiday, he basically told me such.  Then I was telling him how so much has happened this year, but it still blazed by like I was still waiting for something, and he replied “I know what you’re waiting for…” all annoyed (I honestly didn’t mean that!!!), so that makes me wonder and overanalyze (I think overanalyze should be my middle name…).  SO…  we’ll see.

New Year’s Eve, pretty dead-certain.  Because he knows that I’m going to give up and ask him that night.

@google: I know it’s cliched but you’re right.  I knew within 2 hours of our first date, he took less time.  Though, admitting it to each other took a bit longer 🙂

SO and I have been talking about the future fairly early on in our relationship.  Just last week he said he would take me to Venice (my dream vacation spot) in 2012 and we would get married there.  I was shocked and said ‘wait, next year? we’re going to venice? we’re getting married?? next year?!’ Then SO said: ‘well, will you marry me?’  I jokingly asked if he just proposed and he said ‘no, yes… but I still want to get you a ring and all’

I’ve been super excited for the past week and couldn’t keep my mind off of it.  He’s been really busy with work and projects lately… so I don’t think he’ll propose until July – which is our anniversary.

I don’t think it’ll be possible to be engaged and married in less than a year.  It’s a sweet thought though!

very possibly never… he kind of keeps pushing back the “l’ll propose by ____” timeline. first it was by our anniversary, then summer, then fall, then next christmas…

but i have my own timeline before I leave. I can’t/won’t wait forever even though I love him.

UPDATE: After talking with SO it sounds like I misread the signs 🙁 it won’t be until after he gets a raise and/or I find a full time job

    ::sigh::

I don’t know; I’m hoping within a year or two, but I don’t know.  We first talked about it about six or seven months ago, and then I had a career opportunity (which he was very encouraging/supportive of, even though I didn’t want to make the move) which caused me to move halfway across the country.  I’ve been pretty unhappy with the new city I’m living in and it’s dubious how good this career opportunity will end up being.

So it’s been hard with the long distance relationship.  My boyfriend got a little too drunk at a wedding we went to before I moved, where he let slip that he was thinking about us getting engaged before I moved.  That didn’t happen and I was somewhat disappointed by it.  We’ve gone to three other weddings this year, and he seems comfortable talking about weddings and talking about getting engaged.  We’ve looked at rings and discussed styles.

Shortly after I moved, he insinuated that we would get engaged while I was “out here” sometime, and then we would find some way to get back in the same town again and get married.

Last week I found out he changed his mind and said, “Oh, I think we should wait to get engaged until we get back in the same town”, but he’s been pretty satisfied with his career lately and for financial reasons I have to stay with my same company (and I’m not sure I could go back to where I used to work).  So that was pretty upsetting and we ended up having a big argument over it – almost to the point where I wanted to say, “You know, I can’t do this with you.”

After our argument and we calmed down, he said, “Well, I see your point of view (for the record I can see his point of view too) so maybe we can reach some sort of compromise”

So I don’t know.  I get the feeling that if we got engaged he would be more motivated to help us solve this problem of being in different states.  He thinks it’s not as romantic and “putting a deadline” on things.  But yeah.  It’s going to be a while.

I don’t even want or need a big wedding; I just want to get started on our lives together and right now I feel like we’re sort of stuck.

@foreverperpetua: Lol well to be fair, he’s 30 – he’s finally graduating after being away from study for almost 10 years – and we’ve only been together for 18 months so really I haven’t been waiting long. But it’s just hard when you both know you want to spend your life together but the decision of when to take the next step rests on him. What can I say? I’m a take-charge kind of girl lol

My fingers are crossed for you too Smile
