I started mine about where you’re at, 7 months. I suggest NOT doing that. I’ve changed it a million times. Wait until you know the date of your shower and do it a month before.

We registered about six months out and that worked well for us because we actually had someone buy us a wedding gift as soon as we sent save-the-dates, which we did shortly after registering.

However, if you’re having an intimate family wedding, you might not have to worry about that as much.

Either way, I’d say anytime six or fewer months out works. You’ll just want to keep an eye on your registries because a few items may be discontinued between now and your wedding.

We created ours 9 months out (I know – really early!) and even though we had to change them a few times because things sold out, I’m glad we started early. We actually got quite a few gifts from our registry for Christmas and as early wedding presents after we sent out STDs.

Mine isn’t finished but I’ve registered for a few things that I know won’t change.  I originally had many more items on it but I’ve deleted them until I have more time to think about it.

@ontbride:  Good question!  I was thinking we should register about the same time we send out our Save The Dates, since our wedding website will be listed on the STD.  We’re planning to send those mid-October, which is about 7 months before our wedding.

I started a couple months ago, so about the same as where you are now.

We created ours shortly after engagement which was also around the same time our STD cards went out.  (We had a 6 month engagement so wedding planning started immediately)

Sometimes friends and family like to get a couple an engagement gift and the registry may point them in the right direction.  (some of my family sent engagement gifts before we created our registry and lets just say these items are well….. not so lovely)

I would select a store where you can made changes to your registry from home.  Also, make sure the store has a great return policy. Sometimes you will find that you registered for items that you may not want or need in the end.

We did ours about 3 months before the wedding, right after we moved in together…which gave me a better idea of stuff we needed for our home.

@ontbride:  When do you plan to mail your invitations for the bridal shower and/or wedding?  I wouldn’t register more than a month or two before mailing out invitations so that there is less of a chance that things will be discontinued.

I would say before any bridal showers. We registered with about 4 months out. We needed our wedding website complete ( with registry info) before we mailed invites ( that had link to wedding website).

We registered a year out… seems really early, but we had family members who wanted to use it to buy us engagement gifts and even christmas presents. If you keep it small it’s not hard to maintain. Just check it periodically and do a serious update about two months out from your wedding date.

WOW all early. We did ours maybe two months before (so that we could put the details in the invite – i know, shoot me!) It didnt comeonline until 4 weeks before the wedding.

We made ours a couple of months ago…expecting to get things for christmas, birthdays, and other various holidays between now and the wedding. Anytime is fine to start, as long as you check back to make sure things aren’t discontinued:)

We did ours 2 months out, right before we mailed the invitations. I went with Macys and scanned in the store with the Fiance for a few hours. Then I want online and looked at reviews. I ended up changing my pots & pans and bedding based on reviews and also added some crystal.
