You’re good to deposit them. I hate having checks outstanding.

Any that we get, we will be giving to his mom that night to deposit for us the next day so we can have some extra money while on our honeymoon

I would do it soon…people will hate to have an outstanding withdrawal, especially if its  a large amount of money…

Right away! Especially if the wedding’s just passed. I hated having to carry around a whole wad of cash and cheques in my wallet during my honeymoon. First stop after travel was the bank.

I would send out my thank you notes before I cashed checks.So probably as soon as I was able to send them out.

As soon as possible. People won’t judge you for depositing the checks so soon. People don’t like to have to wait and wonder when you will deposit them

I think it’s fairly typical for people to deposit them right off. I know that I’d rather the couple deposit the check sooner than later because I hate waiting for th money to disappear from my bank account after I write a check.

We plan to deposit them before we leave on Monday (getting married on a Saturday) for our honeymoon rather than have thousands of dollars in checks sitting around.

I agree the sooner the better so people don’t have to stress about when the money is going to come out of their account.  But truthfully I’d probably feel a little used if I hadn’t gotten a thank you card or didn’t get one pretty shortly after.  That’s just me.  I’m probably oversensitive.  Plus I’m probably not in a place in my life where I write checks as gifts so maybe my mindset is different than someone who can do that.

I would say within the week.  Also, do your very best to get those thank-yous out there ASAP.

I would probably expect my check to be cashed upon return from the honeymoon, so within a week or two of the wedding.

The only time I would think anything of the timing that my check was cashed is if they cashed it the day after the wedding and then didn’t send a thank you note out for another 12 months.

We deposited ours the morning after the wedding. Honestly, most people want their bank account as up=to-date as possible, and having checks floating around undeposited is a bad thing. Take them now.

@kellmerr:  You should say in your thank you how you spent the money; you can’t exactly do that with any kind of honesty if you haven’t even deposited the checks.

@mrsSonthebeach:  I don’t see how it’d be any less proper to say “Thank you for your generous gift, we’re planning to put it towards the purchase of a X…”

@les105:  Point taken.

That aside, I’d be really confused if I got a thank you before the check was deposited.
