I’m getting married in summer 2016 after I complete my undergraduate degree. So the wedding is still about 20-21 months away. Is it too soon for me to start looking for the dress? I know that some dresses have to be ordered and take a long time to come in. But I also have dress fever right now and really want to try on!

mel8771: Try a bunch on, it won’t hurt. It’ll be fun and give you an idea of what you’d like. Just remember, there will be a few new collections/dresses out by the time you get married, should you decide to buy one now. You don’t want dress regret (many of those threads here on The Bee).

mel8771: Go try on dresses! Too soon? Nahhh! Go have fun doll that’s what it’s all about! I have friends that bought it as soon as they got engaged. Whatever makes you happy there is no right or wrong time and don’t let anyone tell you different. Have fun and I’m looking myself yay it’s exciting!

Start looking, just because you will love it!

I’m getting married feb 2016. I bought my dress in April 2014. I also didn’t get engaged until Aug 2014 lol I tried on tons of dresses before I was engaged and have tried on a couple since I became engaged. The women in the shops said I shouldn’t start looking until a year out since most dresses take like 6-9months to come in… Little did they know I already had my dress and was just playing dress up! Go play dress up and if you find one you absolutely LOVE and can’t live without, then get it.

I would say be cautious…..
new dresses come out all the time…your body shape may change….you will have to store a dress for 2 years potentially…..
id say wait if you can. Look your heart out online but maybe wait closer to your date? you can get a ton of pressure to buy when you weren’t planning and the next thing you know you will end up with a dress and maybe one that you regret.
