I always thought I wanted to get engaged when I was in college but during the end of my senior year, my now Fiance, started talking about rings and I broke out in hives. I just wasn’t ready. I wanted to graduate college and get a job and figure out what I wanted to do with my life. So a little over a year after I graduated we ended up getting engaged.

Uhhh…yesterday? LOL…actually I feel like there isnt a perfect time to get engaged (or to do anything for that matter)..life will never be exactly how you want it and nothing is perfect. In the words of Kris Allen, “Gotta live like you’re dyin'”

Mine changed a couple times. When I was in hs I thought I’d get married really young, and if I made it to 21 without getting married I’d be shocked (I’ll be 26 when I get married haha).

Over time though I decided one thing at a time was best. I wanted to graduate from school (law school in my case), get a job, live alone, and kind of make it “on my own” before I settled down. And I did. I graduated, moved into my own place, got a job, and worked on being an “adult.” When I’d been working for about 9 months I started feeling like my life was settled enough to take the next big step and I started hinting. (Prior I had always strrrrrongly hinted that I was not ready). He proposed about 2 months after my 1 year working anniversary. I love the way I timed everything out.

I think mine has changed as well. Thought for sure I wanted to be engaged and married at 22. Now I realised I just wasnt ready. So many things I had to accomplish between then and now. Not to mention I was with the WRONG man! But now I’m so ready. Bring on the ring!!

I got engaged a few months shy of my 27th birthday and will be 28 when we get married.  (SO is 6 months older). We both finished our professional degrees, had been working about two years, had lived together and traveled together.

Before getting engaged, I think it is important to have a strong individual identity and enough life experience to know (and be able to discuss) what you expect from each other and what is important to you.

I never thought I would get engaged right out of college, even though I had a few serious relationships before my Fiance. I feel like I’ve changed a lot since college.

I think it is a regional thing, but I don’t even know anyone who got engaged or married right out of college.  At 27, I have one married friend (who got married at 25 to someone she had been with for 7 or 8 years) and one recently engaged friend.

This summer… before I explode!  🙂  Financial reasons might delay it until fall/winter though… where is my patience?

For a while I was like…GAWD I just want to get engaged ALREADY. But, we both agree it’s way too soon and I have a lot of school left. Besides, we love each other and neither one of us is going anywhere. I *would* like it if it was within the next 2-3 years though…But then again I want a 2-3 year engagement too so…yeah.

I met my current SO right around the time I graduated with my BA and also around the time that I was working out a divorce. So the idea of marriage anytime there was kind of impossible to fancy when you just got dumped. I was 22 at the time. Was previously married at 20. My SO is 2.5 years older, so he was 24 turning 25 that year.

I am now 25 and have been living with my SO for about 2 years. We’re approaching our 3rd anniversary and I’m also graduating with my MS. I thought while in grad school an engagement was possible but it really isn’t on my mind as much as it used to be. We already act as if we’re married (that’s the danger of living together i suppose) but I think the perfect time now is probably to pay off some debt and have some kind of wedding fund going.

I hope to marry by the time I’m 27 and have a kid soon after. But the way things are going…My SO has big ideas and wants to start up his own business. I just keep hearing the dollar signs rolling out of our bank accounts, so this year is probably out of the picture for engagement. Bummer.

growing up i wanted to get engaged right out of college. i ended up going to grad school so that plan was changed to after grad school. then i ended up breaking up with my bf right after grad school… so any plans went away all together. i ended up getting married right before i turned 27, and i’m very happy with how life turned out.

We would love to be engaged sometime in the next year or two. We’re both ready, he’s just saving for the ring at the moment ( : We’d really love a long enagement and to be married after graduation, so in order for that to work we’re looking at being 20 or 21 at the time of the engagement.
