I haven’t stated planning yet, but this is a good reality check post. I will likely have a while year to plan, and will plan backwards from a budget-but i guess one thing i see as a pattern is not to takePinterest too seriously!

I love this thread! I missed none of the things below, and blame Pinterest
– Passed appetizers
– Farm tables…$80 per table (to rent!) had to pass
– Table runners
– Market lighting (venue already had perfectly functional lighting)
– Benches for the ceremony (instead of chairs)
– mismatched antique china (for 150 people..wasn’t happening)
– mercury glass candle votives
– Ring bearer (was stuck in traffic due to an accident)

Loving this thread! I have a few things that I have given up so far:
Real flowers for centerpieces. We are using fake flowers in water filled vases with floating candles.
Photo booth- if I can find a way to DIY this, I will still do it, but for right now, it’s getting nixed.
Venue- we originally had a more expensive venue picked but decided on a cheaper one that was just as beautiful, but not as all inclusive
We are paying more for some things that I don’t feel like we need to, but Fiance wants it. Such as custom artowrk for the tables and cake. Also DJ, I don’t think I need one but Fiance and DOC are insistant.

- Wedding: May 2014 - Scottish Rite Cathedral (New Castle, PA)
BurlapnLace: We didn’t have a videographer or live ceremony musicians, we dialed down the centerpieces so they were cheaper, rented some decorations instead of buying them, had beer/wine instead of a full bar, had less appetizer options and I did more DIY versions of items I loved rather than buying. Most of our adjustments were to fit into our budget with the exception of the videographer who we put a deposit down on and he just didn’t work out. =/

We’ve given up on:
- Videography – holy hell it’s expensive
- Renting table cloths
- An old school limo type car
- (maybe) uplighting
- having a harp at the ceremony (I’m trying to fight for this still) lol
I’m sure there’s tons more I’ve forgot about

- Wedding: July 2014 - Sedona Golf Resort
BurlapnLace: we had a cocktail reception and I gave up signature His (whiskey) and Her (martini) drinks and instead had just beer, wine(3 kinds) and margaritas. The signature drinks were $12/pp and that was simply $1200 too much. My DJ came in over budget so we had to make some changes somewhere.

NYE2014: LOVE the calendar idea! What company did you use?

- Wedding: December 2014 - The Villa
MrsMore14: I actually found a calendar that kind of fit our NYE/celebration theme at Target! And it really nice sized blocks for guests to sign in.

Custom linens. I wanted something sparkly to “wow” everyone, but it’s so not worth the money. Besides, the venue we chose happens to have beautiful ivory linens already. Nobody will say, “This wedding will be so much better with glittering tablecloth…” So that went. I *might* decide to get something special just for the sweetheart table if there’s extra cash for it.
Photo booth. It’s expensive and takes people off the dance floor, where I want them! We are thinking about having a small table with props, just for fun, with no actual booth. I think we will only do it if we wind up with everything else on the list done… but that doesn’t seem likely.
Fancy lighting. It’s a lot of money and the venue lighting is totally fine.
Charger plates. This was an idea that tied into the sparkly linens, thanks to Pinterest and some gorgeous tablescapes I saw. Realistically, it was another thing that just had to go. Unncessary!

We have been very budget concious about our wedding so not much has gone out the window. Still have 4 months tho.
A couple things have
-flower centerpeices. Ours is beach themed so i wanted sand and seashells and some scattered flowers. But that is expensive and sand is a mess. So now we have seashells in a vase with floating candles. Lol
-floor length table cloths with overlays in our colors. Now we have table cloths that go 2/3 to the floor with table runners in our colors.
-Luckily my mom requested the photobooth, so that is definitly staying! 🙂
-The candy bar was going to be color coordinated, but that ish is expensive. So now we are having a candy bar in normal candy colors.lol. we figured it would be fun, and we can focus more on delicious candy. Saved over 50% on that! Getting candy in certain colors is ridiculous!!
I think thats it for now. I still have a few ideas brewing that I hope arent far fetched.lol
