Sometimes if i have an event I need to match the shoes and the dress I will bring/ wear the dress but not really a wedding dress.

If you go with a white or ivory shoe I would go with what ever color your dress is.

As for a colored shoe it doesnt need to “match” the dress IMO the colored shoes are just to add a pop a color and fun so they dont need to match.

If your dress is “diamond white” you might need to see both white and ivory shoes against it to see which works best.  I ended up with ivory because white looked brighter than my dress.  I recommend zappos.  Just order a bunch and return what doesn’t work.  Free shipping/free returns.

I would also either order online from a place with a good return policy, or buy some a local store with a good return policy and take them home to try on.  But, it that won’t work you can certainly take your dress…I’m sure they will be able to accomdate you.

Could you maybe get a swatch of fabric from your dress? Maybe if it was altered there’s still a piece of it? Or maybe your dress shop has some similar fabric you could take?  I wouldn’t lug my whole wedding dress with me to try on shoes…

The back panel (modesty panel) is the easiest thing to take with you if you have one.  I wish I had thought of this earlier in my dress shopping.  I went through 6 pairs until I thought of it (ssshhhh, I kept 3 of them, you know too cute to take back, lol).  For some reason, I had it in my head that my dress was darker than it really was and all the shoes I bought were way too dark.

I ended up finding two pairs, one that matches my dress and a black pair.  Not sure which I will wear to the wedding.  I haven’t decided if I want the punch of color or the traditional look, I like both.

I didnt vote because I bought my shoes online on Zappos.com. The good thing about Zappos is that you can get them, try them on with your dress and then send them back (free of charge) and exchange them or return them if you dont like them or they dont work!

I shoe shop almost exclusively online. Also, my dress is huge, and I can’t imagine schlepping it around! I would just bring a picture of my dress. I wanted colored shoes, so I didn’t need to check for white/ivory tone matches.

It seems like too much to lug around a wedding dress. can you bring a swatch? usually shoes are easy to return I guess unless they are on sale.
