She is being completely absurd. Unless you guys are ordering custom dresses from some super in-demand designer half the world away, there is absolutely NO reason you need to be ordering this far out. And being pregnant, you just can’t know how your body is going to change between now and then.

I’d contact the store directly and ask them how much time is required between ordering and receiving the dress and then tell the Bride that you will order your dress as close to that date as possible to ensure you get one that fits properly. If she’s not willing to work with you on that, then I’d step down because that level of irrationality is only going to get worse…

The last wedding I was in where we had specific dresses that we had to order, I think it was like 6 months or so in advance.

Is she worried they won’t have the style she’s chosen anymore since her wedding isn’t till late 2020?

Yeah, that’s crazy. My bridesmaids are wearing designer gowns and it only took 3 months for them to come in. Demanding you order over a year in advance is unnecessary IMO. Unless, as PP mentioned, she’s afraid the style will be discontinued.

jadeparcell5 :  If this friend is normally pretty rational / down to earth, your last update makes me wonder if she ended up getting manipulated by a high-pressure sales tactic at the store… Really? The lady is going to YELL at you / her if you don’t order your dress soon? That doesn’t sound like great customer service to me…

“I plan on calling and questioning them because my friend told me the lady at the store will “yell” if I don’t get fitted for my dress by Christmas.”

Lol. Well, I would yell back. smh.

jadeparcell5 :  if this is normal behaviour for her, then I’d say fuck it, take the opportunity to back out of being a bridesmaid because her ridiculousness is only going to get worse and you don’t need to deal with that shit, especially while you’re pregnant and chasing around another little one!

Her wedding is 22-23 months away.  In theory, you could have the kid you’re three months pregnant with now AND have another kid in that same time frame.

It doesn’t take longer than the amount of time it takes to conceive, grow, and birth two whole human beings from scratch to order a basic bridesmaid dress.  Hell, it doesnt even take the amount of time for one human being.  She is being ridiculous and I would push back.

Lol I’m getting married 11 months out from my proposal date so technically two of your poll options didn’t even apply to me. Heck I didn’t pick my wedding dress until 9 months out
