I’d say it all depends on what year you want to celebrate it.  Some couples do it at 5 years, 10 years, 25, etc.  Others do it every year.  What do YOU want?

We’ve never even discussed the idea, but I can see doing it after 10 years, I suppose.

If you’re not doing a renew for 5 years, I think you could wait at least 4 before planning. As you’ve said previously you want a big wedding, I’d start saving money but not planning

We are going to put down a deposit on a venue a year before the ceremony. Buying my dress, invitations and favors will start about eight months before.

It depends on how quickly your venue will be booked. I would say that a year before is a good guideline.

@mrsedwardslpn:  I may be missing something, but are you not having a large wedding/reception now (i.e., eloping/court house) and then going all out for a renewal later?

Regardless, I would saying planning it is similar to a wedding…I wouldn’t recommend starting the planning process more than 1 1/2-2 years out.

That’s beautiful! We saving Paris for our tenth.

For our fifth anniversary trip, we’re going to a suite in the woods for three days, which includes an outdoor hot tub outside the back door. The suite is completely private with a fireplace, kitchen, bedroom and dining room. My husband and I like to get away from the city, especially around our anniversary when all the gorgeous foliage is out. We can go to the main house for breakfast prepared by the property owners.

It will be so nice to have the wedding we always wanted with people we love. I am so excited!! I already have everything picked out, just have to wait until October 2014 to put our plans in motion.

I am following most of the etiquette rules around vow renewals. There will be no attendants, no expectation of gifts and no train or veil with my gown. My bestie and I are going away for a weekend before the vow renewal and that will be a substitute for my bachelorette. I am only wearing a gown because my mother specifically requested that I do so and though I am not close to the old lady, I still feel bad about hurting her. She is still my mother after all.

@mrsedwardslpn:

Taking a trip every year is a great way to keep the spark alive. We like to do the minibreaks each anniversary. Last year, we went to the Thousand Islands. This year, we are visiting wine country.

Our Christmas tradition is going to Niagara Falls for Dec 23-25, for the festival of lights. The hotels are cheap at that time and it is not nearly as crowded as the summertime.

Sounds like we both married romantic men!
