Take the photos whenever you want. We took ours 11 months after we got engaged. They’re engagement photos, not just engaged photos. We took them in time to put them on our save the dates. I’ve had several friends wait to take them until the month before their wedding even.

I couldn’t really vote, because its hard to have an opinion. In terms of the time of year, I think it depends where you want to take the pictures and how drastic your weather are.

I think winter pictures can be romantic, but if you are worried your figure, you might not want to be wearing a bulky coat. Also, if its really cold, you might not look very comfortable in the pictures. Of course, if you have an indoor location, then you can go whenever you have time.

No reason you can’t wait until closer to the wedding, unless you want to use the photos for save the dates, whatever.

I agree that you should take them when you want!  If you want to have them taken next spring/summer, do it.  I don’t think that’s “too long” to have been engaged…  I know someone who had engagement pictures taken just a month before her wedding because that’s what worked best for her!

My fiance & I had ours done this past weekend, which was a full year before our wedding…  I felt like that was maybe too early, but we didn’t want to wait until it snowed & we wanted to be able to use the pics for our Save-The-Date Cards [still hate that abbreviation Wink] this spring, so…  It worked out great!  I say pick your favorite season & go with it.

I say either now or spring…  wear something that you feel comfortable in, and if you can pick an outfit that be convertable or you can switch outfits quick (adding a sweater, scarf, ect), and something neutral, ideally solid (not a very patterned shirt).  Tall to your photog and see what they suggests for locations or find a park, downtown area or a spot that is important you and your Fiance.  Good luck!

I’d say have them done whenever you want. Keep in mind though that it takes some time to get them back (3-4 weeks for us) so if you want to use them in the wedding you’d have to have them earlier in the spring. But I don’t think it matters how long after the engagment you have them, ours were about 7 or 8 months later, but I never even really thought about it.

I’m not a snow person, and I know many people are not, BUT I have seen some really gorgeous and amazing snow engagement photographs. I wish I could have done mine in the fall or the winter :/

@Lemma: sounds good with the coat. (I live in a really cold part of Canada, so my coat is down, and its like wearing a giant pillow haha)

It really depends on your city. I’ve seen photos in art galleries, plant obvervatories, swanky coffee shops, museums, universities, etc.

We had no idea when to take ours, and our photographer recommended taking them the opposite season that you’re getting married in – we’re getting married in the spring, so we did our pictures in the fall.  I know you said you and your fiance are not winter people, but I think the pictures would make a really nice contrast to your wedding pictures!

Our wedding date is right before yours and we’re not doing them until April!  The only reason we’re going with April is because we don’t want winter pics but we want the engagement pics so we can use them at the wedding.

@Lemma: You could always ask your photographer if you can do a bridal session or day after shoot instead of engagement photos.
