So I am getting married in a different state and wondering when I should get my nails done and wanted the help of the bees…
Wedding is Saturday morning. we will be leaving home Wednesday. I would prefer to get gels done on Tues night/wed morning beforeleaving instead of trying someone new that I dont know. I will be in Cali/orange county- where there are plenty of talented people, but hard to just pick one for your wedding day.
Should i get my nails done early? will they grow out too much? I dont know these things as my job doesnt allow me to wear nail polish… I will do french on my hands so it wouldnt be that obvious, but wanted your help

If you’re not getting acrylic, I wouldn’t get them done before Thurs. My polish always tends to chip easily unless I’m super careful. I got my nails painted (nude color) the night before and the tips already seemed dulled/barely chipped by the next day (I wash my hands a lot).

@bellagio: Do you get traditional nails done? Have you ever done gels- they are supposed to last a lot longer…?

I’m getting them done the day before the wedding… I’m in the same position as you as I live 3 hours away from the wedding and will have to get them done by someone new.
I’m really afraid of chipping or cracking though as I’m very clumsy and am constantly banging my hands/nails. I think it’s just safer to get them done closer to the wedding so they will look nice and freshly painted! 🙂
….Or you could get them done before and if need be go to a local nail salon to get them touched up? That might cost you extra $$ tho and you’d still end up at a new salon.

i have been growing my nails or a while so i went and got a manicure for a wedding i attended friday night, i went monday afternoon because we were flying out wednesday and they were already chipping and coming off by friday, if i had my nail stuff with me i would have redone them for the wedding.

If you were going to route of using artificial nails, or even a gel overlay I would say earlier in the week wouldn’t matter as much. But if you’re planning on just getting a regular manicure and french tip polish on your nails I would definitely wait until much closer.
The threat of that polish chipping through the days after having it done would be very great….

@Miss Ox: I’m SO glad you asked this! I’ve been wondering the same thing- my wedding is out of town and I’m leaving on Wednesday AM too!
I was thinking that I should wait and do it later in the week too. Can’t wait to see what others think!

I’m doing mine the day before! Don’t want them ruined before the big day!

@Miss Ox: i’ve heard gels last longer too – the nail ladies asked if i wanted gel and i opted for just regular polish, should have gone with the gel – just to try it out.

If you are getting the UV Gel nails…If I were you..I wouldn’t chance getting your nails done 3 days prior to the wedding… I feel that although they will not chip, I do find that they dull out and if your nails grow fast, you will start to notice that space on the bottom of the nail bed.
…also not to scare ya, but I had my UV Gel nails done on the Friday before my Saturday wedding..by Tuesay of the following week they were peeling (and this NEVER happened to me prior, as I had been trying out the UV Gel for long before the wedding)

I’ve had gels before, and they do last forever, if done correctly. Not done correctly, they can peel, as PP mentioned or bubble and get really dirty-looking. I don’t really like them because my nails are naturally strong, so any chemicals just tend to make them weak. My nude was 2 layers of OPI and a top coat.
If you really want them done on Tues. I would get gels at a high end salon.
ETA: I have made a french mani last about a week if I touch up the tips with white every other day or so, but it can look a bit rough on the ends, and I’m not sure how that would photograph or if you want to have to worry about touching them up yourself.

I would definitely wait & do it there right before the wedding. I wish I could get it out of the way earlier, but I’m getting mine done the day before because otherwise I KNOW I’ll screw them up in a couple days…

I am leaving for Vegas for my wedding November 3rd and my nail appointment to get gel nails is on Nov 1st here in town.

I would just wait until the day before the wedding. Look up online the area you’re getting married in and you can find reviews of the local salons.
Gels do last a while though, I got gels for a wedding I was in last year and they still looked very nice when I got them taken off almost a month later!! They just grew out a lot by then.
