Travel nut here…

IMO… there is never a time too soon to start planning a vacation… and as it is your Honeymoon you’ll want to do a lot of research of Destinations you might be interested in going to, and some camparissons.

Also, starting early means you can nail this one item down early too… and therefore leave the time closer to your Wedding for the TON OF OTHER THINGS you’ll be dealing with / worrying about last minute (so one less headache)

Additionally, you can often save money if you book early vs later (true for airlines, and often true for Hotels too… plus more choices in regards to rooms etc).  This is also true if you are considering a cruise at all…

And lastly, the nice thing about having your honeymoon reservations part squared away is you can still have lots of time to daydream about the adventure together… and do research on the other details… like what sort of things you’ll do there… Sightseeing, Organized Tours, Museums, Activities, Restaurants, Excursions etc.

Plus, I always find the more research you do BEFORE you travel, the better the vacation is overall… in that you’ve got a better idea / feel for the Destination (don’t forget to check out a map as well… if you have a basic idea of where things are BEFORE you get your feet on the ground, you can hit the ground running, because the learning curve of getting familiar with what is where is that much shorter).

Good places to research holidays on line include…

Wikipedia (for general info) – Electronic Guide Books (like Fodors etc) – TripAdvisor (the best Trip Planning Website on the Internet… Info, Reviews, and Boards / Forums where you can chat with locals and Destination Experts).  OR if you are going on a cruise… look at TA’s sister website Cruise Critic.

Hope this helps,

PS… Early booking doesn’t always mean you have to pay it all off upfront either.  Sometimes there are a pattern of payment dates (such as with a cruise), so you can budget better I find.  So much for airfare now, so much down for the rest, and so much later, balance even maybe due when you depart or later.  Means you can have a plan (booking in place) and still be in a position to pay it off over time.  BONUS.

And remember… these two tips.

1- If the place you are going has a Loyalty Program (Airline, Hotel, etc) join it… it is FREE to do so.  Join BEFORE you actually call up and book, because you’ll often be entitled to perks as a Member (or they’ll just automatically give you priority, better rooms, upgrades, complimentary items etc).

2- When on your Honeymoon tell EVERYONE.  Most places will be happy for you and give you freebies… be that a complimentary drink, free dessert, better room, souvenir, bottle of wine in your room etc.  All little niceties that can make your Honeymoon memorable.
