I’m getting married the first weekend in November. When do I start registering? I’m worried that if we start our registries too early, things will start to clearance out and our guests won’t be able to find our items. Any suggstions?

@EmilieV: I would start registering now (you never know when someone may want to throw a bridal shower if they’re trying to keep it a surprise) but keep an eye on the registry. If things clearance out, update them with other/similiar items.

November of 2013? Start it 6 months before, but just check on it once a month to clear out/replace any out of stock or discontinued items.

@EmilieV: I would wait until at least 6 mos. out maybe even less. we’re having a short engagement and registered 5 mos out and there were still items that were discontinued on our registry that I have to fix.

Registering is something I think you can do anytime, so may as well get it out of the way sooner than later! 😀

Let’s see…you’re about five months out, right? I think you’d definitely be okay to start registering. We started registries at Macy’s and BB&B at six months out, and Target at about 4-5 months out. Some of it does depend where you register. We haven’t had too many things get discontinued off of our BB&B registry (or Macy’s, for that matter), but we started our Target registry a little later for that reason.
I would also definitely log in from time to time to see if you need to update anything. BB&B sent us e-mails when they were discontinuing something, which was really nice. Have fun! Fiance and I were in a LDR at the time we registered, so we had to knock it out in a weekend. It was long, but fun :-).

I don’t think anyone checks your registry until your shower invites go out, you can do it earlier of course, but then you run the risk of items being discontinued, no longer available, etc.

Register ASAP. It’s kind of a pain in the butt and it took us a LOT longer than we thought it we — multiple trips, then looking online, then deciding we didn’t actually want some items….just do it now and, like @mandypop said, check it once a month to see if items have been discontinued. (Bed, Bath, and Beyond actually just emailed me to tell me that my bakeware was being discontinued, so the stores may give you a heads up as welll!)

Thanks for the suggestions ladies! I have no idea why my wedding date says 2013 on my profile-I’m really getting married this year! I’ll have to work on tearing my fiance away from tinkering on his muscle car so that we can get down to some registry business!
