Hey ladies, I’m in need of some advice. Again. 😉
My fiancé is deploying in october 2014 and will be back April/may 2015. Our wedding is august 2015. My question is, when should I register? We could do it in October before he leaves, but then we have 10 months before the wedding and I’m afraid everything we choose will be discontinued or gone by the time people go to buy stuff. We could do it in April or May when he comes back, but then we only have 3 months until the wedding. I’m afraid that’s cutting it too close. What do you guys think? i don’t know when the shower will be. Possibly in June.

Our wedding is in two years, and we’ve already started registering. I just have print copies of my registry and I check periodically to make sure that things are not being discontinued. I think it is fun to register and we will not have a lot of time to do it later (I’m going into graduate school, the wedding is right after fiance graduates from college, etc.). I think you should go ahead and register in October. A lot of people shop early for gifts anyway.

Definitely do it sooner than later, and just keep on top of it. We registered almost a year before our wedding, because it was the best time for us to do it.

futureladyharvey: have you thought about doing an online registry? If you did a registry on Amazon then you could both do your own research and put some things on in your own time. Actually, I think many of the major stores offer online as well. You can both see it that way and if you disagree with something you can talk about it together later. Plus, I would think it’s a way to do something fun together while he’s deployed.

We just registered this weekend, and our wedding is a year away. We just plan on checking it regularly and adding new things if some items go out of stock or get discontinued. It seems like a long time in advance to be registering, but it was the most convenient time for us, and family have already been asking. Just make sure to register before you send out any kind of wedding annoucements or party invites.

futureladyharvey: I’m in a pickle much like yours. Fiance proposed and a week later deployed for 4 months. I will have the luxury of being able to visit him in 2 weeks (non warzone, obviously), but I’ve had to take care of some major planning without him. I booked our venue, or wedding planner and our photographer without him. I have set up registries online, and plan on putting stuff on them when I see him in two weeks. (we will also be having a belated engagement party when he’s home in September)
Remember you’ll be having a bridal shower too, and people will get their gifts for you from your registry. I highly doubt that your entire registry will be discontinued, and if an item does get discontinued, then you’ll be responsible for finding an adequate replacement if it’s something you really want. You can do most of this online nowadays.
But my suggestion is to register now. Get it out of the way. Do as much as you can while he’s still with you. But check that registry every few months to see if something has sold out or been discontinued.

Fiance and I are long distance. I registered us at Target and Bed, Bath & Beyond. I had him review the registries prior to sending them out. It worked for us, although I doubt he really cared one way or another. He just said they were fine without making any chances. lol.

I would register now. We set up a registry pretty much right away. People kepy asking us, so we kind of did it to get it over with.
Even if you have to register for some items on your own you know your Fiance and what you could use as a couple.

futureladyharvey: Hi there! I am in the same situation where my fiance is deploying pretty soon and won’t be back until 3 months prior to the wedding. We actually started the registration process together, but chose things that weren’t seasonal so they’d still be on there. We did it moreso to have the registry experience. I send him emails with some choices here and there, but for the most part, he leaves it up to me!

We registered 9 months in advance because my husband is in the navy and frequently deployed. Quite a few things were discontinued. You will just have to keep checking and update if need be. NOBODY bought anything off of our registry until a few days before my shower, though.
