I’ve heard 2-3 months is good.  Any earlier and you risk people losing them.  I’m sending mine TODAY for my July wedding.

Early July. Gives them a month to RSVP, which means you get plenty of time to spend that last month tracking down the 80% who do not know what RSVP means!

Gosh, I’m always so different than everyone in the etiquette department.  My wedding is 4 months from today (Sept 4) and we’re getting ready to send the invitations next week!  We just wanted to give ourselves a little more time, since we have an “unspoken” B list with some people we’d like to invite.

agree with pp…. I sent mine right under 3mths out…. gave guests about 6 wks for the RSVP deadline.. and then started the calls 2 weeks after the deadline.

I had my final headcount sooner than later and I was happy to get that checked off my list =)

@pengoala: I’m with you on this one!

We’re getting married October9 and sending ours our the first week of June, because with it being summer vacation we want to make sure people get them, I have a lot of relatives that go away for a month at a time during summer holiday. Also, we have a B list as well.

I’ve heard it is 6-8 weeks before the wedding. I am sending mine just over 2 months before the big day, RSVPs are due a month later and then I have 2 weeks to follow up with any stragglers before turning over my final guest counts to vendors 2 weeks before the wedding.

We’re doing just under 4 months because we didn’t send save the dates.

Technically 6-8wks prior to the wedding and then your guests have 2wks to respond.  If you are having people travel overseas, add additional time.  Most people now send out STD so that people can pencil in the date.
