Hi bees! My wedding is next July, when should I start going to bridal shops to try on dresses? Also, when should I have my bridesmaids get their dresses? Should I wait until the new year or start this fall?

Whenever you want sweetheart, I bought mine a couple weeks after we got engaged. They just called to tell me today it came in. I’m also getting married in July. bridesmaids dressed take less time to come in so I wouldn’t worry so much about those until the fall.

You should start browsing magazines now, and calling salons to make an appointment. You’re a year out, and the rule is generally that you will comfortably receive your dress on time if you order 9-10 months out. So definitely start looking! 🙂 Good luck finding your dress and have fun!!

You can start shopping whenever, but if its too soon you’ll need to find a place to store it. Also, a dress normally takes 4-6 months to come in and you’ll need about 10 weeks for non-rushed alterations. Therefore, the 6-8 month range is good. I ordered mine the end of Jan for my Nov wedding. Since you have time keep a look out for sample and trunk sales, as well as if prices are going to go up. I know for me I planned to buy my dress mid feb, but then found out that Maggie prices were going up the end of Jan so bought my dress a little bit early. You can also check out the running on the brides.

Thanks for the great tips. I guess I should start looking online to get an idea of what I want.
My Maid/Matron of Honor is moving to Florida (I live in WV) in September and won’t be back until my bridal shower in the early summer. Maybe I should see if I can get the girls together to look before she leaves.

I already have my dress and I’m getting married June 2012 :). I just like to do things early in case some emergency comes up. Makes things less stressful.

@jesleigh: I bought my dress in March and it will be arriving late October/early November, just when you find your dress….stop looking!! As for bridesmaid dresses, when I go home to Vancouver for Christmas, the girls and I are going to David’s bridal in Bellingham to look at dresses for them.

I would. I started in Novemeber 2010. I bought in February 2011 and haven’t got my dress yet, I think it should come in around August or so. My BMs are ordering thier dresses now. I picked them out in April/May. This will come in in October so they wont have to worry about alterations around the holidays

I’m a June 2012 bride and I just made an appointment for later this month. I had been looking at pictures for awhile, and a dress that I actually loved is now discontinued. I’m still going to ask the dress store if they can somehow get it in. I like getting things done early, plus with being a teacher, I want to get a lot of things accomplished before school starts.
Happy shopping! I can’t wait to go try on dresses!! 🙂

@keepsmiling19: I’m a teacher, too! What do you teach? I’m finishing up grad school so I’ll just be subbing this year, but I’m certified K-6, and I’m working on a school library media specialization and a Masters in Reading Education.
