Hi bee’s! I am looking for some advice here. I am going to be surprising the Groom with a bagpiper for our wedding. The Groom is Scottish and we have enjoyed listening to bagpipers in the Monterey area that we are getting married at. I feel that it is sentimental and a perfect surprise, especially because we are doing a first look, anything that I can add to make that moment or the ceremony moment even more special for him. However, figuring out when I am going to surprise him has been a lot more complicated. So here goes the scenarios:
1. During our first look, the bagpiper can already be playing at the park we are meeting at when he arrives. Question- will the groom actually get the full surprise that the bagpiper is for him?
2. During our first look, the bagpiper can be off and hiding. Then while we are holding hands with our eyes closed before we’ve seen each other, he can begin playing and walk towards us. Then I will squeeze the grooms hand and he will know it’s for him. Hopefully, when we see each other along with the surprise, the moment will be perfect. Then we can listen to the music while we take our pictures. Concern- I want the bagpiper to add to the special moment and not take away or distract from it.
3. After we have done our first look and photos, the wedding party and family photos, the groom will go into the Grooms room at the Church. Then I will have the bagpiper deliver a handwritten note to him before our ceremony. Photographer can be there to capture the surprise. Concern- making sure the bagpiper shows up on time (parking is really tight in Carmel) and sees the groom in the 15 min that we have before the bagpiper will begin piping in the church garden for 45 min before our ceremony, make sure there is a contact to greet him, bring him to the right room, etc.
In addition to the surprise, the bagpiper will also be playing for our guests outside of the church as they arrive, then he will walk down the aisle at the recessional to walk us back.
I really want this moment to be special. Which option would win you over?
