gunnabamissus :  It sounds like you would benefit from using OPKs. How long is your cycle range?  Like 60-75 day?  Or 60-65 days?

gunnabamissus :  It sounds like you’re fairly regular – you just have a long cycle.  I would start OPKs about CD40-43 just in case, so you know you’ll catch the egg.  If your shortest cycle is 60 days, you probably O on a 60 day cycle around CD45/46.  If you BD from CD40 to about CD55 every other day, you should be good.  But the OPKs will help you pinpoint when you’re about to O, and the BBT will confirm you O’d.

Honestly, if your cycles are consistently that long, I would go to your gyn for some hormone testing. Your body may be trying to gear up to ovulate, but not succeeding until later. If that’s the case, it sounds like you’re ovulating around day 45-50. You will burn through OPK’s like nobody’s business if you start trying to catch your surge at the beginning of the cycle. Aside from that, the quality of the egg may be compromised ovulating that late, which is why I would recommend seeing a doctor if you are having cycles that long. Even if you were having annovulatory cycles followed by a normal one, that would be unusual to have happen that consistently.

This is a link I found helpful in explaining what may be happening with a long cycle: https://www.shadygrovefertility.com/blog/fertility-health/what-does-your-menstrual-cycle-say-about-your-fertility/

ETA: I am NOT suggesting you will not be able to conceive or will have issues. Just that the length of your cycle may be something you want to talk to a professional about as ideally cycles should be less than 35 days. I have long, irregular cycles too.

Agreed that if your cycles are always that long you dont have to start until around day 40. Before having my son my cycles were 40-60 days. We conceived him on a 60 day cycle so doesn’t necessarily mean there’s an issue. Just a long cycle. With that said, after he was born I had 38 day cycles, Ive been going to accupunture every other week to help regulate and am now down to 30 day cycles. So you can get it to shift around!
