That is so sweet that they are participating in such a big way. I think that whenever you deem is appropriate is where they should play! I don’t know if I would do it while something else is going on -like the candle ceremony- this is going to be a super special moment for them and you dont want to overshadow it with another action going on at the same time. That could also be really distrcting to them and it could mess them up.

If it were me, I would think of it almost like a reading. You could have your officiant say, "Next Liz’s brother and sister, Bobby and Molly, will play xx song in honor of their sister and their new big brother." Make sure you limit their play to 3-5 minutes (dont forget to add in the time it will take them to get to the front and get settled) or you could lose some of your guests attention span!

As for what song, I’m terrible at suggesting music, but I’m sure someone else could come up with some good ideas — perhaps you or your parents could talk to their music teacher and l bet he/she could suggest a great piece that they can both play at the level they are and will sound great for your wedding. Dont worry if it’s more traditional and doesnt follow the "flow" of the other music — everyone will think it’s just wonderful that they are willing and able to do this for you.

Also just make sure they practice, practice, PRACTICE!!!

No kidding!  When I was 9 I had been taking piano for three years and could barely play chop sticks, a 6 and a 9 year old being willing and able to play for a group like that – quite impressive!

Wow Liz!  First of all — they are super talented — I think most people on american idol sound good! 🙂

Second — 5,000???  That sounds absolutely spectacular!  Please tell us all more about your wedding, sounds like the location is going to be amazing!!

Wow, they sound amazing.  Maybe they could play before the ceremony, while people are waiting for everything to start?

For a violin/cello duet Canon in D would be the perfect song.  It’s also deceptively simple to play, so they have some wiggle room to be nervous.  It can also be lengthened or shortened.  I played it for my brother’s wedding (violin, viola, cello trio).  They could also play Mozart’s Romance (Eine Kliene Nacht Music No. 2).  Any other Adagio piece would be good too.  So awesome that they learned so young!!
