It probably depends on where you want to go. I would want to book well in advance with consideration to price fluctuations if it were a big international trip. I like to book domestic flights a few months in advance, and then you can book the accommodations and stuff. If you are just doing a short trip not too far away, you could get away with planning a few months or even a few weeks before the honeymoon. Alternatively, you could hold out for a last minute deal, but it’s a risk.

Where are you going? Will it be high season there? I generally try to buy domestic plane tickets 2-3 months out and international 3-4 months out.

Consider if it’s peak season or if there is some big event during the time you’ll be there. If you would be fine with just a standard hotel room, you could probably book just a few weeks beforehand. If you want to have a honeymoon suite or stay at a B&B, something that is less plentiful, I would want to do it as soon as possible. Fortunately, you won’t lose any money on your reservation depending on the lodging’s policy. Unless you are booking the day before, I don’t think hotel prices really fluctuate that much.

I already booked my wedding for Sept of 2015. I had to book early though because the venue that I picked books up really fast. I would say it depends on the venue you want. I would start looking into venues and see how fast they book up. You will be surprised at how many people are getting married.

At the venue I booked at they have dry erase boards set up as calendars with 2013, 2014, & 2015. You can see all the past weddings that they had and also all the dates that are still availabe in the year. They have names already marked in for 2015 because some brides like to plan way in advance to allow plenty of time to save up.

@EMG91215  Anytime is a good time to start looking – don’t make yourself feel rushed looking for the perfect place that meets all of the requirements on your checklist. As far as actually booking the perfect place once you’ve found it – we are honeymooning in early January and booked in September. We paid in full (for flight and hotel) when we booked. This gave us enough time to a) bounce back from the initial big expense, and b) do some research on the destination and prepare accordingly. I’d say three months or so ahead of time is good.
