How far in advance did you purchase your invitations? We’re getting married at the end of June.
I have a checklist that I printed from a website that says to select and purchase invitations seven to six months prior to the wedding date. That seems too far away . . . is it?

We sent our invitations out at the end of June and we began the design process in April. I got my invitations through a shop on Etsy so I first contacted her in April to see about a timeline. At that point she sent me a couple samples and then we were working together for the next couple months. Our invitations got shipped to us and arrived around the beginning of the second week of June. Then I just had to stamp the outer envelope (she pre-stamped our RSVP postcards) and address them.

No. Sometimes it can take awhile to get them ordered and then you have to allow time to have them printed. And addressed – even longer if you use calligrapher. If you found a style you like then i would order them. It is best (imo) to send OTG invites out 2 months before wedding and therefore you will need them finished by the end of april.

That’s funny I just saw that on my checklist today and thought well that’s a bit soon lol. I guess I should get started with it too. I already picked out the ones I want but I just have to figure out wording and stuff.

It took me two months from the time I placed my deposit to get my invites in the mail (meaning to me not my guests). The proofing/printing process can take awhile. I ordered my more than 6 months out because I still have to assemble/address them and I don’t want to be rushed.

I would say 6 months out is reasonable, particularly if most of your guests will be travelling and/or you didn’t send a save the date.
The proofing nd printing process can take up to two months, and then there’s assembly time. No matter how long you think it will take to put those suckers together and get them in the mail, I guarantee it falls short by at least a week.

Thanks everyone, I guess we’ll get on it after the holidays!

I am getting married on June 18 and just ordered mine this week. I want to find a caligrapher so I figured I wanted to make sure I had enough time to get that done. I plan on mailing them out to guests around beginning to mid april.
