So… our original plan was to be married on October 16th and I want to grow my own flowers. I swear I remember many being in bloom last year at that time. However, after talking to a few experienced gardeners, I don’t think I can count on having beautiful flowers that late in the season.
Our venue is still open (well as of last week) on August 21st. That would shatter my dreams of having a beautiful fall wedding. (Darn them for not having anything open in September!!)
I am afraid it will be hot as heck in August and I really want to have a bonfire there, too! (It is in a refurbished barn).
I have no idea what to do, Bees. I am torn. I really want to grow my own flowers but don’t want to sacrifice the date.
Or we could always wait til next year.

Plan the wedding that matches the dreams y’all have!

I’d do your own flowers and have your wedding late in the evening so it’s not as hot. Maybe see if you can “install” ac for the day. (Read as “buy a cheap little air conditioner to run during the ceremony and part of the reception”). If you can do that, call your local air conditioning mechanics and find out if they have any sitting around. My dad does that for a living and he said that they often get some in that can be used just fine for most people, but corporations get rid of them because something little goes out, like an automatic shutoff or something that would ruin their equipment, but the average person doesn’t need. It’s cheaper for the companies to just get new ones.
IMO Summer weddings are best done in the evening anyway. At least in my experience as the town I grew up in reached the upper 90’s+ almost everyday in the summer. If it’s cooler 70’s-mid 80’s then you could do it earlier in the day and just run the ac for a bit or something. If it’s a refurbished barn you should be just fine closing the doors and running 3-4 ac units (plus you can resell them later or gift them to younger siblings/friends moving into dorms or apartments.)

@maisymay… Thank you 🙂 I guess I have two conflicting dreams, but I think maybe the fall time outweighs the flowers. but…. we are on a SUPER tight budget 🙁
@Toffee…. such a good idea, but we have to be out of the venue by 10 pm 🙁
Ugggh.. I had also dreamed of a candlelit ceremony, but that’s definitely not gonna happen either.
In my eyes, the venue was most important since we got a freakin’ steal on it.

Have the fall wedding that you haved planned and dreamed of. You can still have beautiful flowers in October. And it doesn’t have to break the bank.
I think your vision and venue sounds PERFECT for an October wedding.

October, you can always grow your flowers and maybe have them be in your engagement pictures.

Do august, you’ll be my date twin 🙂 We are having a later ceremony outdoors, it will be hot but it will cool down eventually and be so nice to be outside. I’m buying flowers bulk from costco and doing my own arrangements. Flowers are so expensive, good place to cut costs!
