SoonToBeAFK:  You can have it whenever it works for you.  Usually its a month to several months before the wedding.

I wouldn’t plan my own, personally.  It’s usually thrown by a friend or family member or the bridal party.

SoonToBeAFK:  I would say three months to a month before the wedding is typical.  I wouldn’t get any further away from or close to the wedding.

Ettiqute says it is a big no-no to plan your own shower.  The reason is that a shower is a gift giving party thrown in your honor.  It’s impolite to throw a party for yourself where the purpose is to give you gifts.

SoonToBeAFK:  i had a BS two/three days before the wedding. mine was destination so i wanted the girls to get together while everyone from out of town was in town. normally thats too close. but i wasnt expecting anything huge. just something where the women in my lives could meet before our big day. but my sister threw it at her house. since she lived in that town.

i just seen your question about whats normally given. 3 days before the wedding is a tad too close but since mine was out of town i didnt have much choice, and since i didnt have a batch. party with most of these girls, i had it real close. but i got a kitchen aid, biggest gift, other little things like makeup, nail polish, fun little girls night out stuff, things like that.
