@newloves1975: You shouldn’t feel old. My former boss is a little older than you and shops at Rue 21. She bought this floral shirt with a lace collar and people couldn’t quit complimenting her. Nobody said she looked too old for it, and employees love to gossip about their bosses so that should say something.
If it looks good, it looks good!

@mrs_pugetsound: This is actually the top I was looking for to show you for what I thought you meant by boxy, but couldnt find it. I found a top exactly like this, except, in pinkish white, no patterns, at wet seal for 12 bucks!!! =D waaay better than the $300 bloomingdales is trying to charge. (and mine is prettier cause I don’t like patterns. =P)

I don’t even want to tell you how old I am (mid-ish 20’s)_, but I still shop 95% in the junior section, I still go to AE/Abercrombie/Hollister.. Ugh.. *hangs my head in shame*

The music at Abercrombie and Hollister is just so damn loud. ::shakes fist and yells at children to get off my lawn::

@Lt.Columbo: agreed. And it’s dark in there! DH likes to shop there and before he came along I’d never set foot in A&F. My first thought entering the store was “How can you even see what you’re buying?”
But then, I spent my whole teenage years in Hot Topic where it’s even darker so I can’t really judge

@Lt.Columbo: YES! I can’t go into A&F because I can’t hear myself think. Too loud!

@Lt.Columbo: The music doesn’t bother as much as the smell…. I could smell them before I even see them.

I would say when I hit 25. At 33 I still consider myself pretty fashionable though. My most shopped at stores these days are The Loft, Ny & Co, and Express.

@Lt.Columbo: Is that the store that smells so strongly of perfume that everytime I walk past, I get a headache? I’m so afraid the smell will make me dizzy and the lack of light will cause me to trip…I’d knock down a whole slew of those headless mannequins if I walked into there!!
*resigns herself to her actual age and orders pair of elastic jeans* Sigh…

@mrs_pugetsound: They spray all the clothes with perfume and they’re one of the first stores I remember setting off the pre-wrinkled trend if anyone remembers that. I think the hype only lasted a year, if that long (unless I’m just out of touch with fashion), but I know places like A&F and Hollister were selling the rolled-clothes-up-into-a-tight-ball-overnight look for a while.

@Lt.Columbo: And then there’s the nauseating smell of the cologne and perfume they spray on every single article of clothing.

I haven’t been able to shop in the juniors sections since sometime in late high school when I developed boobs, child-bearing hips and a butt. Juniors clothes aren’t designed to accomodate those things. They are designed for bodies without curves.
@mrsSonthebeach: Totally agree!

That’s why I just go to gap and get plain jeans and plain shirts, seriously. Otherwise, I’m relegated to the juniors section because stores for grown up ladies dont fit me!

Wow, so glad I live in europe where this is not an issue at all. Most shops are geared toward a 20ish age group.
