do yourself a favor and wait.  figure out the where, when and stye and some of the details, especially since you’re well over a year out – people and relationships change.  get a sense of what you want your maids to do and how much it might cost so when you ask, you can give them a full picture.  that will save everyone from unpleasant surprises.

I’ve heard the advice to wait until about a year to 9 months before your wedding (if you have that long of an engagement).  I wouldn’t do it too early, because close friends are likely to change.  You never know who you’ll meet or will fall out of contact with.  You want to give them enough time to plan on being in your wedding, but not so soon that you end up with people you aren’t as close to.  Good luck!
