When is a good time to book for a car rental?? We are going to Hawaii for the honeymoon and I was hoping someone knows how this works? Is it like plane tickets where the longer you wait, the pricier it could get? We have AAA as well. Not sure how this works either!? Help!?

Since you can usually cancel car reservations without penalty, I reserve a car early at the best price I can find. Periodically leading up to the trip, I’ll check to see if I can find a car at a better rate. If I can, I cancel the existing reservation and reserve at the lower rate. This takes a little more effort, but worked well for us when we went to Hawaii. Just make sure that you check the rental company’s cancellation policy before reserving if you go this route. The big, national rental companies don’t have penalties for cancellations, but smaller companies might.

I do the same thing owlbride does.
When I booked a rental car for my Destination Wedding in Maui, Darling Husband was insistent on getting a convertible. I found that the best rate was to wait for a last minute deal from Alamo (which they always seemd to have one for Hawaii).
I’ve also heard of people getting good deals through Costco for Hawaii car rentals.

We booked our car rental pretty early, just because we have our travel dates, so why not?! I didn’t see the point in waiting, since we had our travel arrangements made. We booked through a local Maui rental, so the price was pretty low. $250 for a week. I doubt we’ll find better than that, so we just booked it and now it’s off the to-do list. 😛
