I got the bustle done on my dress after all of the other alterations were done (taking it in, hemming, etc.).  It was completed a couple of weeks before the wedding.  As for the actual day, we kept the train down for the ceremony and pictures, and bustled it just before the reception.  Here’s a picture from alterations:

@dmuszall:  Get the bustle put in at your final alterations no more than 2 months before your big day. What material is your dress? I really wanted an underbustle, but it just did not work with the material mine was made out of.

I bustled my dress after walking out of the venue to the picture location. While the rest of the bridal party was making their way over, I had two of my girls go ahead and bustle me.

I bustled my dress right before we were announced in the reception.  I had an under bustle and loved it!  This is the only pic I currently have

@dmuszall:  I did before our first dance b/c I didn’t want to be stepping all over it and possibly falling!!  LOL

got it done with the alterations, wore it bustled the entire day…did not want a train at all, and I think the bustle added to the look of the dress

I got my bustle done at the same time as all other alterations. I bustled mine during pictures. But I was having pictures done in the sand and dragging around the train was too much work. Plus I loved the look of my dress bustled so I didn’t mind.

@dmuszall:  beautiful dress!!! I got my alterations at David’s and they were fine, however they are pricey. I would google the name of your dress and bustle. I had a layer of chiffon over the dress and it could not be under bustled, but maybe they can make it work with yours.

I don’t have any pictures of my dress bustled yet…but it was the very first thing that the seamstress did for me. The last thing she did was take the dress in (hemming was somewhere in the middle of my four alterations appointments). Here is a picture of the train (I had a English bustle put in).

I bustled just before my entrance into our reception. There was no way in H that I was dragging that beast around with me or trying to dance in it!
