If the title of my post didn’t state my first question clearly enough, how long oes it take to get a MOB dress? I have a feeling my Mom will want something fairly traditional in terms of MOB dresses, so chances are we would have to place an order.
Also, my Mom will be considered “plus-sized” by anyone she orders a dress from. She has it into her head that she is going to lose weight for the wedding so she wants to buy a dress to accommodate her intended weight loss. I love my Mom and she has attempted to lose some weight many times and she never really follows through. Not that I care, because I simply want her to buy a dress that makes her feel nice and fits her as she is right now! I don’t want her to despair if she buys a dress and doesn’t see the results that she wants. I’m trying to convince her to purchase a dress that fits her and flatters her size as she is right now so that we can avoid any hurt feelings later on.
Can anyone give me a timeline on when we should order, and also maybe a few designers that accommodate plus-sized women’s bodies really well? I just want her to be happy and make this a fun trip…not one that gets her down over her weight. Thanks ladies!
*FYI, I am not plus-sized, which is why I am asking for a little help. I hope that nothing I said above comes off as judgy…because I don’t mean it that way. I simply want my Mom to avoid falling into the “I am going to lose weight trap.” I don’t want Mom to lose weight…I just want her to get something that already fits her as she is.*

My mom actually just ordered her MOB dress from this site: http://www.frenchnovelty.com/ She picked something from the Caterina by Jordan Fashions line.
They have a ton of different styles, colors, and sizes, including plus size and petite. It does take quite a while to receive the finished dress. She ordered a week or two ago (mid November) and it’s not estimated to come in until the end of January!

I think most plus-sized MOB’s buy their dresses in brick and mortar stores where they can try on the dress.
Perhaps you could suggest the two of you have a girls’ day where you go shopping and out for lunch. She can try on dresses in order to see what styles she likes. She may very well find one she likes enough to purchase. If she does lose too much weight for alterations, she can always sell it and get another.
If she doesn’t purchase a dress, she will at least know what styles and sizes work for her in different brands.

I tried getting my MOB dress in a brick and mortar store. The stores either didn’t have my size or in a color I wanted. I actually found the selections limiting. I went to a bridal salon and ordered a MOB dress. There are lots of designers that make beautiful, almost evening gown- like dresses. Not as frumpy as they used to be. I was able to select the style I wanted, the color I wanted, even the length I wanted.
I was told to order 5 months before the wedding at the latest. 4 months for the dress to come in and 1 month for alterations.
Hope this helps

Thank you ladies all so much for your responses…I apoligize for the delay in mine, as I got stuck at work late last night.
@tbiytc: I will direct my Mom to this site to get some idea as to what she thinks she would want. I think she will want to try on before she buys, but this is a great way to see what’s out there…thanks!
@julies1949: Thanks for the “girls day” suggestion. I think that would go over well and she might feel more comfortable if the whole day wasn’t about finding a dress for her…too much pressure.
@djoann958: Thank you for the heads up on time frame! We are about 6 months out right now, so it would probably be wise to start looking just in case we need to have alterations done. I appreciate you sharing your experience 🙂

I got my MOB gown from here:
As long as it is in stock, she can get it within 2 months, I did!! And I felt gorgeous in it!

My mom got her MOB dress from David’s Bridal. They have a pretty good plus-sized selection (she is plus-sized) She actually ended up getting a bridesmaids’ dress, strangely enough, although it did not look like a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress on her.
My Mother-In-Law is also plus-sized and I believe she got hers from JCPenney or Macy’s.
