I had some girls order in May/June that aren’t getting their dresses in until November for my December wedding! Buy now! Especially if you’re going to tradtional Bridesmaid or Best Man dress route. It takes FOREVER.

We were advised to and ordered in August 1 for our December wedding. The dresses are expected to arrive October 26 (3 months) and will leave 1 month for alterations. I think this is a good window though if I did it over would probably order a little later.

Edited to add: Absolutely consult your bridal shop for the timeline anticipated for ordering dresses. Some lines take longer to produce than others.

ilovesophia :  Good to know! Some of my girls went the Nordstrom route. If you fall in love with a Nordstrom dress, just buy it now. Nordstrom has an AWESOME return policy in case somethin happens!

ilovesophia :  if you are ordering off the rack it’s a little trickier as those lines go out of production with the seasons. So what is available today may not be available or easy to find 6 months from now.

On the flip side of that, if your girls get their dresses now and have a change in figure (going up or down dress sizes, etc) they may not be able to adapt.

I had my bridesmaids rent their dresses from Union Station (unionstation.co) for $50! Luckily they had a pop-up trunk show in Seattle back in January, so I had them go and try out the styles they’d be interested in. Union Station recommended my BMs to reserve their dress 3 months prior to wedding day.

ilovesophia :  great! I just that case then I would recommend about 3 months out for off the rack unless your girls are confident they won’t have an extreme change in which case they can buy whenever if they see something that is perfect.

Davids Bridal said max 3 months. Some of them arrived in 3 weeks, some took almost 3 months.

This sounds CRAZY but my mom had a hell of a time with her dress from Tadashi from Nordstrom. She’d order it and the size was off a bit (her fault), but then when she ordered the next size up, the fabric and dress design changed (not that anyone besides her would notice but she waited 30 years to be MOB so I’ll give her that)… she sent it back while ordering another one… fabric came back with weird snags, etc. It took sending everything back (you’re right Nordies is amazing customer service) and for her to go through Tadashi directly to get a dress that looked “normal”. It can happen with any of the desingers you mentioned- just wear and tear and at one point I swore a fake was included!

I say go ahead and have the discussion with your girls now (so they know price, etc). If any of them have the problems my mom did and live 1.5 hours away from the nearest one then you may need to the extra 2-3 months the average person may not. Plus you may be able to snag deals if everyone has lead time. Whether it sits in the back of their closet for 2 months or 9 months it’s not that big of a deal. And most of what I’ve seen, bridesmaids may gain/loose 5 pounds… but they’re usually not on the same strict diet the bride is so it’s not a problem with sizing unless someone gets pregnant. So factor in if you think one of them may do that and have a plan B in place (happened to me!).

Can’t wait to see what you pick.

AWwww  bummer! Yeah you gotta look at the details- that stinks. But I think the more time the better.

We did ours through azazie.  I’m getting married November 12 and everyone had ordered it by the date we had agreed upon, August 12.  The two who ordered them earlier have already received them and the other two are still waiting, but I think we’ll be okay timewise.
