Hey Bees I’d love your opinion!
The question is, “At what point after an interview would you call to follow up if you haven’t heard anything?”
Got your answer?
Okay more details:
I had a major interview Thursday of last week, I sent thank yous on Friday and a requested follow up email with more information to the boss on Monday morning.
I was recruited to interview by a former boss.
I know I was their first interview, they are hiring two people, and I know that at least 2 of the three people making the hiring decision were fans of me as of Thursday evening.
Does any of that change your answer?
TIA!

Did they give you any indication of when they would contact you? Most interviews I’ve been to have usually concluded with “You’ll hear from us in X days/weeks with a decision.” I usually wait until a few days after that deadline, then give them a call just to check in.

Did they tell you when you might hear back? If not, you’ve sent a thank you and responded to an email, I would wait for at least a week, maybe 10 days.
Fingers crossed!

I’m not sure how all businesses work, I’m sure they vary a little.
But, I know when we’re hiring people at my place of work, 1 of 2 things happen : They are either hired on the spot, or we call them within a few days. For us, it’s safe to assume you don’t have the job if you haven’t recieved a call within a week of the interview.
It also annoys the manager if people call to check up on their interview/app, because EVERYONE does it these days. It doesn’t make it special anymore.
I work for a large resort.

Personally, I’ve always felt that if they wanted me for the job, they’d call me. They are never going to want to give someone a job and then nite cause they didn’t get around to calling. If you got the job, you will get a call. If not, no call. the only reason I’d ever follow up is if I got another job offer that was less than the me I was awaiting news from, then I’d phone up and ask and be honest about the situation. Good luck.

@Americano: Like others have said, I would wait until a couple days after the interviewer said you’d hear back. You’ve sent a thank you and an email… if you call you risk seeming like a pest. It’s exciting!! Just hold tight a few more days. 🙂 Fingers crossed for you!

@Americano: I would call back 7-10 days post-interview. I called back TWICE (after one week, and then a bit after two weeks) after I went to two interviews for a job. I ultimately got it, and I think it was partly due to my perisistence.
I’d make the call.

I’ve never called and I’ve always gotten every job I’ve ever applied for. But I’m a nurse, not in business, so all the etiquette rules might be different?

@Americano: I almost always end interviews with “when should I expect to hear from you?” & I call the day after that date. But if I forget to ask that, I call one week after last contact with them. You sent an email Monday so I would wait until Monday to call. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I wasn’t given a specific timeframe because I personally know the person who would end up being my direct manager. It’s a start up in silicon valley so everything seems to be either it’s happening right now or it’s happening sometime. Never “in five days,” or “by April 6,” etc…
In other news… I did just call. They are still interviewing, but since I can’t start immediately one person is trying to drag out interviews for the other position (and hire us together.)
So, I think it’s positive. I just hate not knowing for sure!
