How much altering does the dress need? Are you going through the store or through an outside seamstress? If you’re going through the salon, you’ll have to see what their timeline needs to be. Ideally, you want your alterations completed and the dress ready for pick up about two weeks out. At least that’s what I was told the first time around. That way it’s not so close to the wedding date as to be scary, but at the same time it’s not so far out that you’re screwed if you gain/lose weight. I remember reading somewhere that the suggested alterations timeline is 2-3months between first and final fittings. Also, if your dress needs to be cleaned still, you definitely want to do that before alterations. Depending on the fabric, it may shrink or stretch a teeny bit.

    Hope that helps.

I would say start the process in late Jan/early Feb.

I myself am not starting until early Jan when my wedding is mid Feb so I’m not a good example but I’m late on everything. πŸ™‚
