I want to surprise my Fiance but having a cigar roller at our wedding – The venue is on a pier so both the cocktail hour and reception will be outside. Should I have the roller come during the cocktail hour? I first thought that was the right idea but then I’m thinking …”a cigar before dinner and food?” So the other option is after dinner? Any thoughts?

I lovee this idea. If I was having a more traditional lineup I would have done this. Oh sorry, back to your original question. I definitely agree about after dinner. Not that there is anything wrong with during cocktail hour but I feel like a lot of poeple could get distracted from dinner by it. They would seat themselves later or something. Also, I also have that whole post dinner “brandy and cigars” image in my head right now so it might be skewing my reply.

@MASPA: I think you might be right with the “brandy and cigars” idea. I think its most approriate for after dinner. I just don’t want it to take away from the dancing.

I have been thinking about having a cigar roller as well. I definitely think that after dinner is a much better idea. If you have them during cocktails it could ruin people’s appetite or the taste of the food because they will have the taste of the cigar in their mouth still. Not everyone likes to dance so it might be a nice activity for those who don’t 🙂

Make sure your venue is okay with it first. Some businesses have no “smoking” anywhere on their property, even in the parking lot! And that includes cigars and pipes… Better to know before you hire someone. But otherwise, it would be a fun thing if it’s allowed!

We are having a cigar roller and cordial bar after dinner. I think it makes more sense to have it after dinner, since they take a long time to smoke and people will then smell like smoke.
