@UK Bride:  I think the advice in the UK is to keep babies in your room until 6 months for SIDS prevention.

If I were you I would plan on having them in your room and keep what you will need (multiple times a night) in your room.

I would let your parents have the spare room and worry about turning it into a baby space when they are nearer the time that you would be able to move them into their own room (6 months).

Lets face it, with 2 new babies and your parents in the flat you will probably be more grateful for them to have their own room and for you to have your living room as you might want some time separate from them. It would also give them a small degree of privacy which I am sure they will appreciate, even though they are polite enough not to ask for it!

Best of luck- hope you are well.

I think its possible to have the spare room turned into a nursery in decor so its ready to go, but without the cribs so your parents can stay there.

@ThreeMeers:  I second this. Are you really going to have time or energy to paint and do whatever it takes to get a nursery together when your TWINS are 6 months old? But I do think letting your parents have their own space is a good idea too!

@UK Bride:  oh you poor thing! How many weeks are you now? Hopefully you’ll turn the corner soon! I also think that you’ll have a much better idea of how you need the nursery to function once your babies are here. even if you set the room up things will change once you meet your babies 🙂 so nice your parents a willing tot come help you, and not being demanding!

Could you paint the room and have it ready for the babies just no cribs/changing table set up?  Then after your parents leave all you would have to do is take down the bed(s) and put up the cribs.  I don’t think I would have the energy with 6 month old twins to decorate a room.
