hi bees – i last dyed my hair about 5-6 weeks ago (at home, box hair dye). when should i dye it/touch it up before the wedding so it looks fresh and not faded?
a week before? two weeks before?
i asked my hair stylist but i totally forgot what she said!

I’m planning on getting mine dyed the week before. I tend to sprout greys pretty quickly so waiting 2 weeks would be too risky for me.

I also dye my hair with box color at home. I used to be a blonde and only went to the salon to get it done but now that i have dark brown hair, i stick with just dark brown box color from Sally’s… looks the same:) It depends on what color you have…
I feel that when I color my hair, it looks shiny, healthy and is the softest the 2nd to 4th day of coloring my hair… since i’m just adding color to my hair and not taking it away. I actually find the longer I wait to color my hair when it’s dark, the worse it looks. lol
If your a blonde… bleaching and going lighter strips color away… so you may want to deep condition, etc a few times if your doing a box color after so it has time to “heal ” lol I’ve had plenty of bad blonde at home color mistakes before I started only going to the salon for that lol I would wait about a week if you are going blonde.
Hope this helps… i’m not a professional so you may want to ask your stylist again as well:)

@kolsen206:I did mine 2 weeks before. It was still great. I wouldn’t go more than 2 weeks (no roots) or less than 1 week (too black from the dye not washing out).
ETA: FWIW I have TONS of grey. And I keep one of my grey streaks undyed, in case you saw that in my recaps. That’s not faded, it’s the only natural hair color I let show.

I think it depends on how extreme you are going but my stylist is having me come in about a week before my wedding but thats for highlights.

I did mine one week prior and it was great! two weeks for me would be pushing it for my needs (dark hair and far too much gray!)

I usually dye my hair reddish every few months and I find that it looks good around a week after the coloring. maybe with 1 or 2 washes in between. This way all the extra dye that has creeped into your scalp and hairline is gone but the color is still there and it looks shiny. I think it’s the same with brunettes and black. I find that the first two days it looks kind of harsh and “dyed”
Here’s an example for me: When I did the first session of our e-pics I colored my hair the night before. It looked really red:
Our second session was about 4 days and 1 hair wash later and it still looked red but not as shocking:
Maybe you can’t tell the difference but it felt diffrent for me haha.
I’m going to have mine professionally colored a week before.
If you’re going for blonde then I have no idea 😀

i would do it a week before – my hair always needs a few days before it looks normal again, its always super dark right after a color, i need a few days a couple good washes for it to look natural.

@merenguito: same here! i’m a deep red, and I’m getting mine dyed on a Wednesday and wedding is saturday. Extra barrier cream so I don’t get the weird hairline look.

I plan to have my highlights done about two weeks before – I always find it looks a bit “artificial” for the first few days and then settles down beautifully.
