It’s recommended to get it a month before your wedding in case of any snafus.  California licenses are valid for 90 days.  You should definitely call the county clerk and see if you should get an appointment.

It varies state to state. Here, you can get it and get hitched the same day, but it’s only good for 30 days.

If you can, see if you can download the form from your state’s website and fill it out in advance. (In case there are any weird documents or questions…)

Also, here, you can go first thing in the morning (8AM? 8:30AM?) and there’s no line then; you’re in and out in like 20 minutes. Maybe you could go before work and work a bit later that day to make up?

definitely check out your states’ website on marriage license laws, rules, requriements, etc.  i was stressin’ over this for awhile b/c my Fiance and i are LD .. but thankfully in our state he can just mail me back a copy of a notarized license so that i can bring it in person to the county clerk. so search in google for your state and ‘marriage license’ and then if you still have questions you can call their office to ask.

Just to make sure there are no snags, go onto their website and see sort of documentation you need. I needed my birth certificate and had to order it and that took 2 weeks.

Haha we got ours the morning before because we kind of, um, forgot about it until after business hours on Thursday.  Yeah, we’re dumb like that.  So I highly advise getting yours IN ADVANCE!!!  The NY licenses are valid for 30 days but you have to have them for 24 hours prior to the ceremony, which we were cutting cloooose!

A month before?!  I’m getting married in CA but live in NY so I won’t be even in CA until 5 days before the wedding (using up all my vacation days for the honeymoon so can’t go before that).  I thought that would be plenty of time, but maybe not?
