So I’m trying to decide whether to bring my welcome bags to Mexico, or give them to each person beforehand. I read somewhere that someone gave their welcome bags to their guests before they left, they gave a really good reason why but I can’t remember it, ha. Does anyone have any experience with this (as a guest or a host)?

I’ve only gotten welcome bags for destination weddings when checking into hotel or the bag was waiting in our room. It seems odd to give them out in advance. Then it’s not really a welcome bag and the guest would have to pack the items in their luggage and bring the items themselves to be able to use them during the trip?
ETA: I think I might remember the wedding you’re talking abt. Wasn’t that their save the date or something & not their welcome bag? I think they shipped out a box that had all kinds of stuff from their destination as part of their save the dates.

I spoke in advance with the hotel where my guests booked. They were handed out to guests by name at check in. I would have liked to have had the bags waiting in the guest rooms but I was informed that the actual room number is not selected until actual arrival at check in desk, unless the person booking the room requests a specific room number. Since I left it up to my guests to book when and where they wanted, that wasn’t going be an option. All guests ended up booking at the hotel we suggested so, it worked out for all the bags to be handed out at check in.

I like the check in idea but I think we are going to do them at the welcome party.

I have to ask, what is a welcome bag?

I’ve always gotten welcome bags when I checked into the hotel (this is also what we did for our wedding). Like Shkragoldfish mentioned, your guests would end up having to pack up their own welcome bags if you handed them out in advanced, which makes them seem much less “welcoming.”

Shkragoldfish: I totally agree. I remember someone else doing that, and at the time it seemed like a great idea, but looking back…it doesn’t make sense..haha.

That is odd to give it to your guests before you go. Like others said, our guests received their welcome bags when they checked in at the resort
